Amakhosi edged the Lions of the North 3-2 as they returned to winning ways and head coach Ernst Middendorp will expect that momentum to continue as they come up against a disappointed but perhaps slightly confident Maritzburg outfit.
Despite their woes this season which sees them languishing dangerously at the bottom, a far cry from last season’s top four finish, they will take solace from their win over AmaZulu in the KwaZulu Natal Derby last week.
With the league reaching the business end, victory will be imperative to the Team of Choice’s hopes of survival, while for Chiefs, three points would go a long way in their attempts to catch the PSL title-chasing pack.
While many have disregarded Chiefs’ title challenge, there are still a few players including star attacker Bernard Parker, who believe that the title is not out of Chiefs’ reach just yet.

With no suspensions to worry about, Middendorp is likely to field a strong starting XI.
Daniel Akpeyi will be expected to start in goal as Itumeleng Khune continues his rehabilitation, while Khama Billiat could return after missing the game against Highlands Park.
Bllliat continues to lead the club’s goalscoring charts along with Leonardo Castro and with the latter having found some sort of form, if the Zimbabwean returns, it could be fireworks upfront.
Meanwhile, Maritzburg have not won an away game in 10 outings in all competitions.
This might tempt Eric Tinkler to look to his more influential players such as Fortune Makaringe and Siyanda Xulu for inspiration.
Makaringe, in particular, is the club’ joint top scorer with two goals this season, and his most recent goal came against AmaZulu.
The exciting winger is likely to be one of the first names on the team sheet, while Tinkler may be tempted to throw Judas Moseamedi into the mix, as he netted the winner in their 2-1 victory over Usuthu, coming off the bench.
This will be the 27th meeting between the two sides in all competitions.
Chiefs boast a stellar winning record having registered 15 wins to Maritzburg’s four, but the last time these two sides met, the clash ended in a goalless draw earlier in the season.
