'I'm on the phone to him every day telling him to leave!' - Man City star urged to ditch Premier League

Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts has been told to leave Pep Guardiola's side this summer and return to Scottish champions Celtic.

Future cloudy for Ozil and Sanchez

Roberts excelled during an 18-month loan spell at Celtic, helping Brendan Rodgers' side claim the SPL title and remain unbeaten throughout the entire league campaign.

Rodgers is interested striking a deal to sign the 20-year-old permanently this summer, though Celtic would have to break their transfer record and pay £6 million for the England Under-20 star.

Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney, who has himself been linked with a move to the Premier League, is keen on Roberts returning to Celtic Park next season.

“I would be delighted if we were able to get Patrick Roberts back, I really would,” the defender told The Evening Times. “He showed last season what he can do and he was part of what was an incredible season for us.

"I am on the phone to him all the time – I am telling him every other day that he would be better back here for another crack at it."

Roberts scored 11 goals in 47 appearances for Celtic across all competitions last term, his most prolific campaign to date.

Rodgers' side were runaway title winners, finishing the season with 106 points - some 30 ahead of second place Aberdeen - winning 34 and drawing four of their 38 fixtures.

And while Roberts hit double figures in appearances for just the third league campaign of his career, he believes last season will be difficult to ever better.

Liverpool interested in Mbappe

“I don’t know if I’ll ever play for a team who can go a whole season unbeaten," Roberts said. "Invincible.

“So I think, when I look back on my career, this will be the biggest highlight. My biggest accomplishment in the game."
