The Brazilian defender has been linked with some of Europe's top clubs, but he says his intention is to sign a new contract in France

Marquinhos is ready to ignore interest from Barcelona and Manchester United and commit to a new contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian defender is considered to be one of the finest centre-halves in European football, and is certainly one of the most sought-after.

At just 22 years of age, Marquinhos already boasts considerable experience from close to 200 club appearances and 17 caps for his country.

He has graced the Champions League and helped PSG to three successive Ligue 1 titles.

It is those exploits which have sparked interest from afar, with his ability noted by leading sides in Spain and England.

Marquinhos, though, insists he is happy in France and hopes an agreement can be reached in talks regarding an extension to his current contract.

He told Foot-Sur: “We’ve begun new contract talks and we need some time to reach an agreement.

“It’s not only up to me but my contract here runs until 2019 and from my point of view everything is pretty clear, I want to stay at PSG.”

Barcelona were reported to be closing in on a deal for Marquinhos in 2016, but were ultimately left empty-handed.

United were also heavily linked with an approach during the summer transfer window of that year, while Premier League rivals Chelsea are said to have joined the chase in January.
