Azam FC skipper, Himid Mao has revealed that their Federation Cup defeat against Mtibwa Sugar was “a bitter pill to swallow”.

The Ice Cream Makers were tied to a goalless draw after 90 minutes and later crashed out after an epic penalty shoot-out.

It took ten spot kicks from both sides to get the winner who booked a place in the semi-finals against Stand United.

Azam players who missed their spot kicks were Frank Domayo and Abdallah Kheri “Sebo”.

Speaking to Goal , Mao who scored the first penalty for Azam said that he feels bad and he thinks that all his fellow players feel bad too.

He said that they tried to win the match but unfortunately they weren't successful and the defeat they received is bitter to swallow.

“We were on top throughout the game, we created chances but couldn’t take them, we now have to agree with the defeat although it is a bitter pill to swallow,” said Mao.

Azam were among favorites to win the title alongside Yanga who were also eliminated by Singida United on Sunday.

Mtibwa Sugar will now face Stand United while Singida United will be up against the lowest division team remaining in the tournament JKT Tanzania in the semi-finals.
