GOtv Shield: Sofapaka edge out Western Stima to progress

Goal Kenya.
The 2014 champions started the match on a high note and scored via captain Hillary Echesa to advance to next stage

Western Stima's poor run was extended to GOtv Shield after they suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Sofapaka.

Coach Henry Omino hoped his team could progress in the tournament, but Sam Ssimbwa's Batoto ba Mungu had other ideas. The 2014 champions started the match on a high note, and in the 19th minute, captain Hillary Echesa scored the only goal that sent his side to the next stage.

Stima is one of the two premier league teams that have been eliminated. Ulinzi Stars was the first one to be shown the door after falling to Sony Sugar by a solitary goal scored by Amos Asembeka. The soldiers fell by the same scoreline last year in the final, against eventual winners Tusker.

Nakumatt progressed after winning 7-6 on post match penalties against Modern Coast Rangers. The teams played to a barren draw in regular time. Others in the round of 16 are Eldoret Youth, who defeated Young Divers 2-0 and Butterfly, who were handed a walkover after Mwatate United failed to turn up.

Sofapaka XI: George Opiyo (GK), Willis Ouma, Jonathan Mugabi, Kennedy Oduor, Wesley Onguso, Mohamed Kilume, Bernard Mangoli, Hillary Echesa, Feni Ali, Meshack Karani, Umaru Kasumba.

Subs: Ruben Juma, Hansel Ochieng, Maurice Odipo, Ezekiel Okare, Michael Oduor, Abdulatif Omar, Humphrey Okoti.
