Gor Mahia have come out to distance themselves from the hooligans that attacked and destroyed properties worth thousands of shillings on Sunday.

Even though there were no major incidents at the Moi Stadium as Gor Mahia battled to a 2-2 draw against Mathare United, the scenes that preceded the coronation ceremony left a sour taste on the lips of Kisumu residents.

The fans allegedly walked into a local restaurant, ordered for food, then majestically walked out with unsettled bills, but not without administering serious beatings on the attendants. The incident left some workers nursing serious wounds while properties worth thousands of shillings were destroyed.

Gor Mahia have now denied that their fans were involved in a statement obtained by Goal. “We gathered in Kisumu City to celebrate our achievement as K'Ogalo family and not to destroy property. What happened at Kakwacha is unacceptable. Our fans in the mood of celebrations left the stadium peacefully after the coronation as the 2018 KPL champions.

“This issue is very sensitive and already at police OB in Kisumu. Before this post, I had to consult widely reaching our fans country wide through branches and its leadership to establish any link or any such involvement. I want to report without any fear of contradiction that those were NOT Gor Mahia fans but rather hooligans masquerading as Gor Mahia football fans.

“The police in Kisumu should have them arrested Immediately for the sake of justice for those whose property were destroyed. Entire Gor Mahia family is in solidarity with individuals who were attacked and wishing them quick recovery.”
