Gor Mahia defender excited to face Wayne Rooney

Gor Mahia will play English side Everton in a friendly match in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Thursday.

It will be coach Dylan Kerr's first match in charge of K’Ogalo after taking over from Brazilian Ze Maria and the Englishman is keen on giving a majority of his players a chance to prove their worth.

Defender Haron Shakava will be among the men tasked with the huge responsibility of holding the team together from the back.

The former Kakamega Homeboyz defender is excited with the prospect of facing one of the world's best players, Wayne Rooney, who joined the Toffees last week and is already in Tanzania with the rest of the squad.

"Rooney is a player we have been watching on TV most of the time, we all know he is a good player, who has won many major trophies.

“I am happy to be facing him, which is a motivation to us (players). We want to give a good account on the pitch considering it is a lifetime opportunity," Shakava told Goal.
