Goal machine Mbaye Diagne grabs brace in Kasimpasa win over Istanbul Basaksehir

Mbaye Diagne fired past goalkeeper Mert Gunok twice as Kasimpasa secured a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Monday.

The 26-year-old forward who helped the Apaches get a win at Rizespor in the Super Lig opener powered his side ahead in the 67th minute from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Manuel Da Costa.

Diagne shouldered the responsibility of putting the ball inside the net by sending Gunok the wrong way.

While it looked like the visitors would leave Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadium with a point after Stefano Napoleoni’s equaliser in the 85th minute, it was the Senegalese who had the final say with his late minute strike.

Kasimpasa have now won their opening two games of the season to sit in the fourth position of the Super Lig log.

For Diagne, he has now scored three goals from two games this term – and 15 overall in his last nine outings for Kemal Ozdes’ team.

They travel to 11th placed Sivasspor for their next league outing on August 26.
