Ghana Football Association communications director, Ibrahim Saanie Daara, has revealed that the Black Stars will not participate in any international friendlies until June, amid reports that they could play against Jamaica and Cote d'Ivoire.
According to reports in the local media, the negotiations with Jamaica's football top hierarchy fell through following suggestions that Ghana would have to bear the cost of travelling arrangements and bonuses.
Ghanaian authorities reportedly kicked against it, advising the GFA to look for countries that can cover all expenses.
“If the funds [to organise matches] are not available, there is very little we can do about it,” Saani Daara said, as quoted by Citifmonline.
“We don’t have any opponent to play against for this window and the only match we have lined up will be in June when we take on Iceland in a pre-World Cup friendly as they will be using it to prepare [for their game against Nigeria].
“It is about cost and this is a decision the country has to make. If we don’t have friendly matches, we must organise them and pay for it,” he added.
Ghana ranks 54th in the Fifa World rating for February.
