Parma have announced Ivory Coast international Gervinho has signed a contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2022.

The forward, who joined the Northern Italian side in August 2018 on a three-year-deal from Chinese Super League outfit Hebei China Fortune, returned to the Serie A for a second spell having played for Roma between 2013 and 2016.

He featured in 30 league games last season and scored 11 times as Roberto D'Aversa’s side ended the campaign in 14th place.

He’s played in all seven league outings this season, finding the back of the net once and registering two assists. Furthermore, the former Arsenal forward has scored twice in the Coppa Italia this term, with both goals coming in Parma’s 3-1 win over Venezia in August.

A 2015 Africa Cup of Nations winner with Ivory Coast, Gervinho was a notable absentee in Ibrahim Kamara’s squad for this year’s showpiece in Egypt.

The attacker has also been left out of the Elephants’ latest group to play DR Congo on Sunday, October 13.

Given his nonparticipation for the West African nation, Gervinho’s next outing is likely to be in Parma’s encounter with Genoa on October 20.

The club currently sits in 12th place, having won three and lost four of their fixtures this term.
