Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka is confident that they can still win the league despite sitting seventh on the PSL log.

Maluleka was speaking to the media after receiving his Goal of the Month award for the month of December.

The 30-year-old scored his award-winning goal against SuperSport United; the match which marked Ernest Middendorp's first league encounter upon his return to Naturena.

"Yes‚ I still think we can do it [win the league]. I think it’s going to go down to the last day once again‚ but we believe we are still there," Maluleka told the media gathered at the club's headquarters on Wednesday.

According to Maluleka, the entire team believes winning the league title is still possible even with 10 matches to play before the end of the season.

"I think the whole team [believes it's possible]. I mean‚ then why are we playing if we are going to believe we’re not going to challenge for the league title?" he asked.

"We believe we still can‚ and anything is still possible. Everyone else is also dropping points; there’s draws. So you know‚ we need to keep our eyes open as well and hopefully, it will soon turn our way," said Maluleka.

Reacting to winning the Goal of the Month award, Maluleka said that he didn't expect his goal to be voted as the best for the month of December considering that he's a defensive midfielder.

"I didn’t expect the award, but I understand we have a lot of supporters," said the Tembisa-born player.

"I actually had a look at a couple of the other goals, and I’m very happy that I received it, [and] all thanks to our supporters and those who voted for me," he continued.

"Considering me playing as a defensive midfielder, I think I’ll take this award. It’s very rare that you’re in such scoring positions. So, scoring and getting the Goal of the Month award once in a while is something special. I’ll take it and I’m happy with it," concluded Maluleka.
