Gabriel Jesus has been ruled out of Brazil’s Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour clash with Australia on Tuesday after tests in a Melbourne hospital discovered he has suffered an orbital fracture to his eye socket.

'Kroos should hang up his boots now!'

The Manchester City forward was injured in a clash with club-mate Nicolas Otamendi during Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Argentina on Friday.

The 20-year-old momentarily lost consciousness following the collision, which saw Otaemdni leap over the top of Jesus in an aerial challenge and connect with a stray elbow.

Jesus was taken to hospital immediately after match, initially as a precautionary measure, with Brazil reporting no fracture had been found.

However, further tests on Saturday proved the injury slightly more serious than originally thought.

CBF doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and the national team technical coordinator Edu Gaspar made contact with the Manchester City board on Saturday to update them on Jesus’ condition.

Jesus will now fly home to Brazil and coach Tite has elected not to call up a late replacement, leaving Diego Souza likely to come in and lead the line against the Socceroos at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.
