The topflight is set to resume four months after Aduana Stars won the 2016-17 edition.
Set to begin during the second weekend of February, matchday one’s line-up will see reigning champions begin their title defence with a home clash against Liberty Professionals, while last season’s runners-up Wafa face giants Asante Kotoko – the most successful team in the history of the championship with 23 titles.
The biggest game of the first round, however, does not come off until matchday 10 when Kotoko host 20-time champions Hearts at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The 2017-18 championship was expected to begin last year, but a disruption of the calendar - owing to various litigations and court injunctions during last season’s campaign – forced a reschedule.
Having been without a lead sponsor since First Capital Plus Bank (now Capital Bank) withdrew its support for “restructuring” reasons in 2015, it is unclear if the upcoming season will also go on without a headline sponsor.
