The roster for the February friendly in Las Vegas includes some players listed in positions they don't typically play in with their club sides.

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has called LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos into an otherwise entirely domestic-based roster for El Tri's Feb. 8 friendly against Iceland.

The roster is notable in part for a number of interesting positional listings. Osorio has ignored those in the past, but the national team's social media team clarified that the directors have listed the players in these positions. The novelties include Jurgen Damm, normally a winger with Tigres, listed as a defender, and Club America's Edson Alvarez listed as a midfielder, though he has only played in the middle of America's midfield on rare occasions. Leon midfielders Elias Hernandez and Luis Montes both are listed as forwards.

What we learned from Liga MX round 4

The 19-year-old Alvarez is the only player from Club America selected, as Las Aguilas have a match against Chiapas that was rescheduled for the week of the Iceland game. Reports indicated that Mexico also requested that forward Oribe Peralta be allowed to join the squad but had the request rejected.

Luis Reyes, of Atlas, Alvarez and Monterrey goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez will all be seeking their first cap.
