Disgruntled Bloemfontein Celtic players boycott training over unpaid signing-on fees

Phunya Sele Sele players will only return to the training grounds once their signing-on fees have been paid

Disgruntled Bloemfontein Celtic players refused to train on Saturday morning after the club failed to pay them their outstanding signing-on fees, Goal can confirm.

According to a source within the Phunya Sele Sele camp, the management promised to pay the outstanding money to the affected players, but they never kept their word.

There was another meeting last week where the players met with the club bosses to try and resolve the matter, and they were again promised to have their signing-on fees available on their bank accounts by Friday, March 9, 2018.

However, the club again failed to keep its promise and the players, despite arriving at the training grounds on Saturday, decided to boycott the training session.

"Celtic players are refusing to train without their signing-on fees as promised by the club," the source told Goal

"In last week's meeting, they were told that everything would be sorted by yesterday (Friday), but there's still no money," added the source.

Celtic's decision down tools comes 24 hours before their Nedbank Cup game at home to Richards Bay FC.

The Bloemfontein-based outfit has been struggling for form in recent weeks. They lost 2-0 to Polokwane City in their previous league game which took place on Wednesday night.

Goal tried in vain to get the club's side of the story, but Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco as well as the club's spokesperson Sello Nduna were not available at the time of publishing.

It remains to be if the matter will be resolved before Sunday's match at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
