German outfit Augsburg have handed youngster Kevin Danso a four-year deal, with the option of an additional year, following his senior debut last weekend.

The 18-year-old was given a surprise start by coach Manuel Baum, lasting the entire duration as the side played out a 2-2 stalemate with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Friday.

"For as long as I've been playing football, it's been my dream to turn professional," Danso said, as reported by the club's official website.

"I've made a small step by playing my first game.

"I will continue to work hard and pay back the people who have shown faith in me with good performances."

The utility player could make his second appearance in the away clash with Schalke 04 on Sunday.

Against Leipzig, Danso played in a three-back system, despite mostly plying his trade in midfield or on the right wing.

"Kevin is a huge talent who has been training with the first team since the turn of the year and has developed really well," Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter said.

"We have total confidence that he can turn into a Bundesliga star for us and we're excited that he sees it this way too by signing his new contract."

Born to Ghanaian parents in Austria, Danso grew up in England, where he played for Milton Keynes Dons before joining Augsburg in 2014.

He remains eligible to represent all three countries at senior stage, although he currently plays for Austria at youth level.
