Cecafa Kagame Cup tournament will be staged this year in Tanzania, Goal can reveal.
The tournament was last staged two years when Kenyan champions Gor Mahia lost 2-0 to Azam FC in the final.
However, Cecafa secretary Nicholas Musonye has hinted to Goal that the tournament will return this year and will be staged in Tanzania.
“We will have Kagame Cup making a return after a two year absence. The tournament will be played in Tanzania and I will give more details soon.”
Djibouti was the initial host but it is believed the tournament’s broadcast partner Azam TV influenced the change for security reasons.
KCCA, Gor Mahia, Rayon Sports, Simba SC, Azam FC, LLB, St George, El Hilal will battle it out at Uwanja wa Taifa and Uhuru Stadium in Dar er Salaam in Tanzania.
Cecafa received $1,000,000 Fifa grant that they will use to host all their championships this year including U-17, Senior Women and Men’s competitions.
The U-17 tournament will take place in Burundi, while Rwanda and Kenya will host the Senior Women’s and Men’s championships respectively.
