Bristol City's Famara Diedhiou gets six-match ban for spitting

Bristol City forward Famara Diedhiou will serve a six-match ban for spitting at an opponent during a Championship game.

The 25-year-old was found to have breached the FA Regulatory Commission rule while turning out for his club in their 3-1 win over Birmingham City on April 10.

The incident which happened at the Ashton Gate Stadium went unpunished by referee Geoff Eltringham.

But in a retrospective manner. Diedhiou has been penalised and is set to start the ban when the 2018-18 season commences.

However, the Robins who finished the Championship season in the 11th place have stood by their record signing and are set to take the option of appealing the FA's decision.

"The breach relates to an alleged spitting incident during the club’s 3-1 win over Birmingham City at Ashton Gate on Tuesday, April 10th 2018," read a statement on club website.

"The club is extremely disappointed with the decision of the Regulatory Commission and continues to give its full support to Diédhiou, who vehemently denies the allegation.

"The Regulatory Commission has imposed a six-game ban on Diédhiou, which will come into effect at the start of the 2018/19 season.

"Bristol City has requested the full written reasons from The FA and upon receipt will consult with the club’s legal team as to the options for appealing the decision of the Regulatory Commission."

The former Angers forward scored 14 goals in 36 games across all competitions in his debut season with the Ashton Gate Stadium outfit.
