Atletico Madrid v Celta Vigo Betting: Calderon factor to come into play

Atletico Madrid Leganes La Liga
Both sides will be aiming to bounce back from midweek disappointment and we think the hosts will be able to respond in strong fashion in Madrid

The La Liga meeting between these two sides at the Estadio Vicente Calderon on Sunday could effectively be a third/fourth placed play off for the Copa del Rey given that both teams endured semi-final exits froms Spain's domestic cup competition this week.

While Alaves and Barcelona also meet this weekend in what is a league preview of the cup final, so too do the sides whom they defeated to reach the showpiece.

Atletico managed a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou on Tuesday evening but it was not enough to prevent a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Barcelona although the side performed admirably. With a penalty saved and a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside Atletico should at the very least have forced extra time, but perhaps Diego Simeone's men came away from the game reinforced despite the aggregate defeat.

Celta for their part lost 1-0 at Alaves, conceding the only goal of the two legs late on, and the Galicians will feel they have spurned a glorious chance for a shot at their first ever piece of silverware.

Eduardo Berizzo may have a job on his hands to try and galvanise him players once more for their visit to the capital, and Betway offer them at 8/1 (9.00) for the win. Atleti meanwhile can be backed at 4/11 (1.44) while the draw is priced at 4/1 (5.00).

The hosts then are clear favorites and it is easy to see why, with Los Rojiblancos boasting one of the strongest home records in La Liga and Celta generally not as good on the road.

Indeed, no side have conceded less goals at home than Atleti, while no team in the top half have conceded more away goals than Celta and, earlier this season, Simeone's side recorded an eye-catching 4-0 win in Vigo.

We should not necessarily expect a result as convincing as that, but the smart money should definitely be going on the hosts and backing Atleti to win with a -1 goal handicap appeals at 11/10 (2.10) with this selection paying out in each of the last two meetings between the sides.

Atletico Madrid to win with a -1 handicap at 11/10 (2.10) for a 1.5pt stake with Betway
