Aston Villa’s Bolasie on target in DR Congo loss to Zimbabwe

Aston Villa winger Yannick Bolasie was on target in DR Congo's 2-1 home defeat to Zimbabwe in their Group G 2019 Africa Cup of Nation qualifying match.

Ronald Pfumbidzai opened the scoring in Kinshasa for Zimbabwe in the 21st minute after the Leopards failed to clear their lines.

In the 69th minute, Anderlecht forward Knowledge Musona doubled the lead to compound the woes of  Florent Ibenge's side.

Following his introduction for Jordan Botaka in the 53rd minute, Bolasie - after several unsuccessful attempts by his side to force a comeback - scored a last-gasp consolation.

The visitors had been reduced to ten men after Musona was sent off shortly after scoring but the utterly wasteful central African side were unable to capitialise on the numerical advantage to secure their first win in 2018.

DRC dropped to the second spot in their group standings with four points from three games while Zimbabwe lead the pack with seven points.

They travel to Harare for the return fixture on Tuesday.
