The Congolese giants face Raja Casablanca in the Caf Confederation Cup final, first leg and are keen to end a 45-year-old trophy drought in Africa.

AS Vita coach Florent Ibenge has warned his charges about faltering at the last hurdle in the same fashion they did in the 2014 Caf Champions League final defeat to ES Setif.

The Congolese giants face Raja Casablanca in the first leg of the Caf Confederation Cup final away at the Stade Mohamed V on Sunday.

Since winning the African Cup of Champions Clubs (now Champions League) in 1973, continental silverware has eluded Vita.

They came close to breaking that jinx four seasons ago but lost the Champions League final on away goals rule to Algerian side ES Setif following a 3-3 aggregate scoreline.

“We must leave nothing to chance,” Ibenge was quoted as saying by Foot.cd.

“Everyone still has in mind the disappointment of 2014 when we lost (the Champions League) final to Algerian side Entente Sportive de Setif and, of course, nobody wants to relive that.

“Hence the seriousness put by the management of the green and black team by providing all the means for preparations necessary to make the team not miss this other date with history.”

Vita’s appearance in this season’s Confederation Cup final marks the third year running for a team from DR Congo reaching that stage after TP Mazembe won the 2016 and 2017 editions.

For Raja Casablanca Spanis coach Juan Carlos Garrido, he is chasing the record to become the first ever coach to win the Confederation Cup with two different clubs after also claiming it with Al Ahly in 2014.
