Lionel Messi Argentina 2019
The Albiceleste are looking to salvage some pride at the Copa America and we are backing Lionel Messi and Co. to claim third place at the tournament

For the first time since 2011, a team other than Chile will be Copa America champions.

After winning the 2015 and 2016 editions of the tournament La Roja were beaten in the semi-finals by Peru, yet they could still bow out on a high by beating neighbours Argentina in Saturday's third-place playoff.

There was already a healthy rivalry between these nations before the 2015 and 2016 finals, yet with Chile defeating the Albiceleste on both occasions (both times on penalties) the animosity has grown, meaning this could be a fiery affair.

Latest odds

Argentina have won three of their last four meetings with their western neighbours and 888Sport price them at 81/100 (1.81) to record another success. Chile for their part can be backed 17/5 (4.40) with the draw available at 5/2 (3.50).

Team news

Argentina have no injury concerns ahead of the clash, with Lionel Messi expected to feature alongside Sergio Aguero and Lautaro Martinez up front.

Chile captain Gary Medel has struggled for full-fitness throughout the tournament despite featuring in every game.

It will be difficult for both sides to pick themselves up for this game after disappointing defeats in the semi-finals against their fiercest respective rivals.

Despite the 2-0 defeat to Brazil, Argentina put in arguably their best performance of the tournament and were certainly more impressive than Chile were in their 3-0 loss to Peru.

La Roja's defending was extremely poor and if they play like that again, Argentina and Messi in particular will surely punish them.

With the Albiceleste showing some encouraging signs and facing a side against whom they boast a strong record, there should be interest in backing Lionel Scaloni's men.

Tips and predictions

The price for an Argentine win in 90 minutes should be big enough for our consideration especially given Chile have only beaten their more illustrious neighbours inside 90 minutes once this century (11 years ago).
