Our tipster expects Erik ten Hag's in-form side to open their Champions League with a comfortable victory in Amsterdam on Wednesday evening

Ajax open their Champions League campaign against AEK Athens in the Dutch capital on Wednesday evening.

The Eredivisie outfit were crowned as champions of the continent 23 years ago, but reaching the knockout stages for the first time since 2005/06 is, perhaps, a more realistic goal on this occasion.

Erik ten Hag's men are unbeaten in 17 competitive home matches and will fancy their chances of extending that unbeaten streak against the Greek champions.

Latest odds

Indeed, SportPesa go just 20/51 (1.39) that the hosts open their Champions League campaign with victory, while the same firm go 15/4 (4.75) that this Group E curtain-raiser ends all square.

AEK defeated Hungarian side Mol Vidi in Felcsut to reach the knockout stages, but that was only the second away win that the Greek side have recorded in 15 matches on their travels in this competition.

It is no real surprise, then, that SportPesa offer a chunky 31/4 (8.75) quote that Marinos Ouzounidis' side take all three points in Amsterdam on Wednesday evening.

Team news

Kasper Dolberg could make his first appearance of the season after returning from injury, but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has 10 goals already this term so should lead the line here.

AEK have scored eight goals in their last two matches and they will hope that Viktor Klonaridis continues his fine form; indeed, the Belgian striker has four goals this season, including two in this competition.

A tight tussle?

Ajax have kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven matches and SportPesa go 20/21 (1.95) that the hosts keep Ouzounidis' men out on Wednesday.

Similarly, AEK have avoided conceding in three of their last four fixtures and there is the price of 20/27 (1.74) available that either side fails to find the net.

Ajax are in fine form, while AEK have had real trouble on their travels in this competition over the years.

With that in mind, SportPesa's 23/20 (2.15) quote for Ajax to win to nil could represent real value for punters; it is a play that would have paid dividends in five of the last six matches that the Eredivisie side have won in all competitions.

Ajax to win to nil at 23/20 (2.15) for a 2pt stake with SportPesa
