Abedi backs Caf president Ahmad for success

Former Ghana captain Abedi 'Pele' Ayew has thrown his support behind new Caf president Ahmad Ahmad, adding that he will be successful.

The former Madagascar Football Association chief defeated long-serving Issa Hayatou last month in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ayew says he is open to any appointment in Caf's new administration after holding meetings with Ahmad in Morocco.

“The new Caf president is someone I respect very much. He has been at Caf for so many years and he is very experienced," Ayew told the media.

"He has only been president for a few weeks or months, but I hope he will do very well at the helm of affairs. And I pray his dreams and objectives concerning Caf are fulfilled. I also believe those he has appointed to help him will do their best.

"Caf under him hasn’t laid down any specific things for me or others to do, but what I know is that, I had a long discussion with him in Morocco and the future looks very bright,” he added.

The three-time African footballer of the year, who has been highly tipped to replace Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi in 2019, says he is not interested in the position.
