Former Arsenal player Gilles Sunu switches from France to Togo

Togo coach Claude Le Roy said winger Gilles Sunu of Turkish side Erzurumspor has agreed to switch international allegiance from France to the Hawks.

Born in France and the son of former Togo international midfielder Manu Sunu, Gilles Sunu is in Le Roy’s plans after several attempts to secure his commitment to the West African nation.

“We have the official authorisation of Fifa to be able to use him. He is a player of quality that I wanted to have for a very long time. He is in the squad,” Le Roy was quoted as saying by TogoFoot.

Sunu attended the Arsenal acedemy but could not break into the Premier League and has previously had stints with various clubs in France.

He switches to Togo at a time when the Hawks are at the bottom of Group D with just a point scrapped from the 0-0 draw with Benin at home in their last match.

They now seek to recover when they host equally struggling Gambia on October 12, before facing the same side away in Bakau four days later.
