Thanks for joining our commentary today. Until next time, goodbye.
The Premier League now halts for the World Cup and both teams will return to action in December. Brentford return on Boxing Day at home to Tottenham, while City are away at Leeds on December 28th.
Ivan Toney scores at the death to secure a 2-1 victory for Brentford against Manchester City in their Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium. The forward opened the scoring with a fine header from close range, but Phil Foden equalised for the hosts with a left-footed blast. The Bees remained solid at the back and earned their rewards with a swift break in stoppage time as Yoane Wissa and Josh Dasilva combined to tee up Toney for his second of the game. Kevin De Bruyne denied him a hat-trick following another counter, but the visitors held out for the three points to end a four-game winless run in the Premier League. City have now handed the initiative to Arsenal in the title race and could be faced with a five-point deficit entering the World Cup break.
90' + 10' OFF THE LINE! De Bruyne denies Toney a hat-trick with a well-timed boot on the line after the forward was teed up again by Dasilva.
J. Dasilva
90' + 8' Dasilva collects from Wissa after a brilliant run from the winger down the left flank. Dasilva plays his role to perfection too with a great burst away from Akanji before sending a perfect cross for Toney to convert.
I. Toney
90' + 8' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!! TONEY SURELY WINS THE GAME FOR BRENTFORD!!!!!! 2-1!!!!! The visitors hit City on a fast break as Wissa and Dasilva combine. The Bees are on course for a massive win here and Toney sends another message to Southgate and England.
90' + 7' OVER! Foden latches on to a pass from Laporte and lines up a strike at goal that deflects off Zanka and travels over the bar.
90' + 5' Brentford are doing a solid job of frustrating the home side. City have been a tad frenetic in the final third and have lacked a touch of composure outside of Foden's effort.
90' + 3' Akanji wastes a good position on the edge of the Brentford box as he blazes his attempt high and wide over the bar.

83' SAVE! De Bruyne cuts in from the right flank and drills a left-footed strike low and hard at goal. Raya watches it all the way and makes a solid stop.
81' De Bruyne sees a cross into the box cleared before he fouls Jensen in his bid to regain possession. The Belgian has not been at his best this afternoon.
80' Jensen angles a delivery in from the free-kick on the right, but Pinnock cannot make contact at the back post on the stretch.

52' Laporte remains down on the field as the City medical staff attend to the defender.
50' Laporte goes down in the box from the resulting corner and requires treatment on the field before the game can resume.
48' Silva latches on to a deep cross from Cancelo to the back post, but can only head back across the face of goal where Zanka nods it behind for a corner.
46' We're back under way at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola will be pleased with his side's response since going behind, but will be tad concerned by their lack of clinical edge outside of Foden's strike. Thomas Frank will be disappointed that his team could not hold out until the break. They have caused City problems and still have something to hold on to in the second half.
It's all square at the break at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Brentford. The Bees enjoyed a fast start to the game and Frank Onyeka and Ivan Toney spurned chances before Toney headed the visitors in front. It took time for City to respond, but Phil Foden notched the equaliser in stoppage time with a left-footed blast.
45' + 2' Foden has scored six goals at the Etihad Stadium across all competitions this season, equalling his joint-most in a single campaign (also six in 2021-22 and 2019-20).

P. Foden
Manchester City
45' + 1' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! FODEN RESPONDS FOR CITY!!!! 1-1!!!! City have their equaliser just before the break as Foden blasts a strike past Raya. De Bruyne lifts a corner into the box from the right and the ball deflects off Akanji's head to find the England man. He drills a powerful left-footed drive away from the Brentford keeper into the top-right corner. A fine strike.
45' There will be three minutes of added time.
45' Toney turns the ball around the corner for Mbeumo, but the forward cannot generate enough power on his strike to knock it away from Ederson.
44' Laporte has space to raid forward but then takes on an ambitious strike from distance that travels well over the bar.
43' Mbeumo's header at one end almost reaches Toney before Ederson claims the ball ahead of the forward. City launch an immediate counter through De Bruyne, who then sends a cross-field pass to Gundogan. He feeds Foden to lift a cross to the back post that travels just over Haaland's head.
41' SAVE! De Bruyne threads the needle to release Foden in the inside-left channel. He has options but for the blast himself, forcing Raya into a fine save and then Zanka heads the rebound behind for a corner.
39' There have been a fair few scrambles in the Brentford box from De Bruyne crosses, but so far the visitors are surviving at the back as Stones is the latest to see an effort charged down.
E. Haaland
Yellow Card
Manchester City
37' Haaland catches Zanka with a stray arm to the face and goes into the book.
36' Man City have come back to win each of their previous two Premier League home games in which they conceded first, beating Aston Villa 3-2 in May and Crystal Palace 4-2 in August this season.
34' De Bruyne and Silva exchange passes down the right flank before Stones latches on to an offload and sends his effort well over the bar.

30' A VAR check confirms that all three incidents were not penalties. City are fired up now.
29' PENALTY SHOUTS! City appeal for three penalties in the space of 20 seconds. First there is an appeal for a foul on Haaland in the box from De Bruyne's delivery. Then they believe there is a handball in the box as Gundogan's strike is charged down. De Bruyne then collects in the inside-right channel and goes down under pressure from Mee, but the referee is unmoved.
28' The referee overturns his decision after a VAR check, but it's a free-kick right on the edge of the box on the right flank rather than a penalty.
27' PENALTY SHOUT! Henry plays a poor backpass to Mee, allowing Silva to steal possession ahead of the defender. He burst down the right flank and attempts a cross from the byline that is deflected behind. City scream for handball in the box against Henry, but the decision on the field is a corner.
26' Haaland and Foden combine on the edge of the Brentford box. Foden takes a neat touch to open up room for a strike, but Zanka blocks his effort.
25' Cancelo is having a bit of a shocking first half. He is played into space down the left flank and then overhits his throughball down the line for Foden.
23' Foden twists and turns to fire at goal on the edge of the box, but his effort is blocked by Roerslev. Rodri charges in on the rebound, only to launch his strike well over the top.

19' De Bruyne raids down the right flank and cuts back on his left foot. He angles a dangerous cross into the middle that evades everyone and travels behind for a goal-kick.
18' Toney has scored 21 goals in the Premier League since the start of last season - only Mo Salah (29), Harry Kane (28) and Son Heung-min (26) have netted more in this period.
I. Toney
16' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! TONEY NODS BRENTFORD AHEAD!!!!! 1-0!!!!! Toney is on the spot to give Gareth Southgate and England a reminder of what they could be missing at the World Cup by putting Brentford in front at the Etihad Stadium. Raya launches a free-kick into the box from his own half and Mee rises to win the first header. It loops towards the six-yard box where Ederson is indecisive. Toney attacks the ball and rises above Laporte before looping his header into the City net.
B. Mee
16' Assist Ben Mee
15' Cancelo's discipline is exposed as he brings down Onyeka on the right flank. The Portuguese will not want a repeat of last week.
14' It has been an end-to-end start to the game, but Brentford will feel that they should be ahead.
12' De Bruyne cuts in from the right flank and passes inside to Foden, who goes for a dummy for Haaland. Onyeka reads his intention and makes the interception.
10' Gundogan feeds Haaland on the edge of the box and he turns to fire at goal, but his effort is diverted wide by Mee.
9' City respond as De Bruyne angles a cross to the back post for Haaland, but he can only steer the ball across the face of goal away from Gundogan.
8' Raya commits himself to clearing a long ball over the top from Ederson. He gets there ahead of Haaland, but scuffs his kick downfield. Gundogan gathers, only to slice his attempt from range.
6' SAVE! Henry storms down the left flank and steers a cross into the box that Ederson parries straight to Mbeumo. The forward offloads straight to Toney to fire at goal, but Ederson recovers from his mistake to make a diving stop. Toney had to score and it is a huge opportunity spurned by the visitors.
5' BLOCK! Brentford continue to ask questions of the City defence. Henry steers a cutback into the box from the left flank that Mbeumo sweeps towards goal on his left foot, but Laporte charges down his strike.
3' CHANCE! Toney steers an offload forward for the run of Onyeka from the middle of the park. He bursts into the box and past Stones, but Ederson races off to block his strike with his body.
1' We're under way at the Etihad Stadium.
Brentford have won just one of their five away league games against Manchester City, winning 2-0 on Christmas Day in 1937 in the top-flight.
Frank has made four changes to his side that lost to Gillingham on penalties during the week. Mee returns in the back four, while Janelt and Jensen are restored to the midfield. Mbeumo joins Toney in the final third. Lewis-Potter, Ghoddos, Norgaard drop to the bench, while there is no place in the squad for Mikkel Damsgaard, who missed the decisive penalty in the shootout.
Guardiola has reverted to his familiar Premier League line-up after making changes during the week. There are eight changes from the side that beat Chelsea as Ederson returns between the posts. Cancelo is back from suspension, while Akanji and Stones join Laporte in the back four. De Bruyne slots in alongside Gundogan and Rodri in the middle of the park. Haaland, Foden and Silva form a three-man attack.

Brentford were stunned during the week by League Two Gillingham, crashing out of the EFL Cup on penalties after drawing 1-1 in normal time against a side 22nd in the fourth tier. Thomas Frank needs a response from his team, but they have been trending in the wrong direction, failing to win any of their last four Premier League matches. The Bees are 12th in the table, but will want to head into the break with momentum after producing a positive result against the champions. A big challenge awaits today.
City overcame Chelsea in the week to advance to the fourth round of the EFL Cup, but will now turn their attention back to the Premier League to attempt to top the table before the break for the World Cup. City have won their last three matches on the bounce, but are two points behind Arsenal entering the weekend. Pep Guardiola's men left it late against Fulham last week to earn a vital win after being reduced to 10 when Joao Cancelo was dismissed. The Spaniard will be looking for a more convincing display this afternoon.
