Liverpool v West Ham United Live Commentary, 19/10/2022

1 - 0
D. Núñez (22)

That is all for tonight folks, thanks for joining us. Goodbye!
Liverpool have won three games in a row now, but Klopp's side were nowhere near their best this evening. West Ham will feel tonight's match is one that got away, but at the same time, Liverpool could have been out of sight in the first half. Klopp's side will no doubt take the positives, but there is plenty of room for improvement.
Three points and a clean sheet for Liverpool, but the scoreline does not tell the whole story. Nunez got Liverpool off to a great start when he headed home Tsimikas' cross. The former Benfica ace could not improve his tally for the evening, though, hitting the post in the first half, while Salah missed two chances to extend Liverpool's lead. Those misses should have been punished, but Bowen's penalty at the end of the first half was saved by Alisson. Gomez pushed the Hammers winger to the floor, but the Reds managed to get away with it. Both teams missed chances in the second half, but it was West Ham that were the better of the two sides. Sadly for Moyes, Milner was on hand to block Soucek's shot with minutes remaining, and they will leave Anfield with nothing.
90' + 2' Halfway through stoppage time, Liverpool have done well to keep West Ham at bay. After five or six minutes of constant pressure, the Hammers seem to have run out of gas.
90' Four minutes of stoppage time to come at Anfield!
89' Salah has attempted five shots, the first time he has attempted at least five shots in a match in the Premier League since facing Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.
87' The home side clear the danger from the resulting corner, and it remains 1-0.
86' HOW!!!! West Ham appeared destined to score, but Milner denied Soucek with a last-ditch block. The Reds' defence fell apart, and Soucek was there to tap home past Alisson, that was until Milner stuck his leg out to concede a corner!
84' BLOCK! Fabianski races off his line to stop Salah from latching onto a throughball! The Liverpool forward raced clear of the West Ham defence and stayed onside, but he lost the foot race on that occasion.
83' The atmosphere has totally changed inside Anfield, and the Liverpool fans are panicking anytime West Ham get near their box.
A. Robertson
K. Tsimikas
81' A change at left-back for Liverpool, with Robertson replacing Tsimikas.
J. Milner
Roberto Firmino
81' Klopp continues to withdraw his attacking players as Milner replaces Firmino.
79' Zouma appears to have landed awkwardly after that incident, and he is now asking for treatment for a head injury.
78' CLOSE!!!! West Ham get very lucky as Zouma turns Henderson's cross onto his own crossbar, but Liverpool have to settle for a corner in the end.
77' Moyes has changed formation, partnering Scamacca with Antonio up front.
75' CHANCE! Jones and Firmino are both denied inside the West Ham box from a corner, with the latter seeing his shot deflected behind for another set-piece.
M. Antonio
F. Downes
West Ham United
74' Nearly 10 minutes after he got ready, Antonio replaces Downes.
72' Tonight is another example of Liverpool proving they are not the team of old, but they still have the lead. West Ham should take confidence that they are still in with a chance, and we could be in for a dramatic 20 minutes at Anfield.
70' CHANCE! Benrahma forces Alisson into a save, with the Liverpool keeper receiving no help from his defenders. A looping cross caused problems for Alexander-Arnold and Gomez, but Benrhama's tame volley was not powerful enough to trouble Alisson.
66' Antonio appears to be readying himself for an appearance off the bench!
64' Van Dijk is the latest Liverpool player to try his luck, but the Netherlands international heads into the hands of Fabianski from a corner.
63' BLOCK! Firmino's shot hits the legs of Cresswell and Liverpool have to settle for a corner. The Brazilian pounced on a cross from Henderson, but the West Ham left-back got his body in the way at the right time.
S. Benrahma
Pablo Fornals
West Ham United
61' Moyes makes a change of his own, with Fornals replaced by Benrahma with 30 minutes remaining at Anfield.
60' An interesting decision from Klopp to make three changes, but his team have not controlled proceedings since Bowen's penalty miss. He has decided to do something about that; whether that was the correct call is something we will soon find out.
Thiago Alcântara
57' Klopp adds more steel to his midfield, with Fabinho replacing Thiago.
C. Jones
Fábio Carvalho
57' Carvalho's night is also over, with Jones returning from injury.
H. Elliott
D. Núñez
57' That wasteful effort was Nunez's last involvement, with Elliott on in his place.
56' Nunez fires over from inside the West Ham box, but his effort was never going to worry Fabianski as he put far too much power on his strike!
53' In fairness, both sides have been guilty of giving the ball away too easily, and both Moyes and Klopp need to get their message across quickly.
51' Liverpool are still full of confidence on the ball, but they need to be careful they do not become sloppy. They have already shown signs of naivety in the first few minutes of the second half, with West Ham pouncing on any loose passes.
48' OVER! A one-two between Henderson and Salah carved open the West Ham defence, but the Reds skipper could only curl his shot over the crossbar.
46' We are back underway!
That was West Ham's first shot on goal, but Liverpool need to use it as motivation. They carved their way through the Hammers' defence at first, but they need a second goal if they want to secure all three points!
Nunez's header separates the two sides at the break, but the home side have Alisson to thank for keeping their lead intact. Tsimikas's cross was dispatched by Nunez in the 22nd minute before the Uruguayan then missed two further chances to score, hitting the post with the second. Salah then fired wide on two occasions before Alisson was called into action at the end of the first half. West Ham won a penalty after Gomez bundled Bowen to the ground, but the Hammers winger got up off the deck and saw his spot-kick saved.
Penalty Save
45' Replays show Bowen's penalty was at a nice height for Alisson, but he still had to get across his goal quickly. Thankfully for the Reds, he did that, and his team should have the lead at the break.
J. Bowen
Penalty Miss
West Ham United
45' SAVEDDDD!!!!! Bowen went to Alisson's right-hand side, but the Brazilian flew across his goal to keep his team in front. Fine save at a crucial time!
45' Two minutes of stoppage time to come at Anfield.
43' Referee Attwell has been told to consult the pitchside monitor...
42' VAR CHECK! Gomez brings down Bowen in the box, and he could be in trouble here, with replays suggesting he did not touch the ball before crashing into the winger from behind.
40' Liverpool should be further in front at Anfield, but Alisson has had very little to do at the opposite end!
39' OFF THE POST!!!! Nunez rattles the frame of Fabianski's goal before then firing wide with the rebound. It's safe to say he is causing problems for the Hammers' defence.
38' Keep trying, Mo! The Liverpool crowd rise to their feet as Salah tries his luck for the third time in three minutes, but he fails to convert Firmino's cutback, with Fabianski making a simple save.
36' Salah tries his luck again from the edge of the area, but his second shot nearly hits the top of the stand at Anfield.
35' WIDE! Liverpool come within inches of doubling their lead, but Salah's shot flies past the far post. Alexander-Arnold decided to pass rather than shoot, but the Egypt international could not find the target from inside the penalty area.
32' West Ham have yet to register a shot on goal, but they are coming close to winning the ball back on the edge of Liverpool's box. For now, Klopp's side are just getting out of trouble, but they are taking a few risks when in possession.
30' The angle was awkward for that set-piece, and West Ham kept the scoreline at 1-0 as they cleared without coming under any pressure.
29' Kehrer clips the leg of Carvalho to hand Liverpool a free-kick...
26' Nunez now has three Premier League goals to his name for the season. The way he has started, he may improve that record shortly!
23' SAVE! Nunez and Fabianski go head-to-head once again, but the former can only blast his shot down the throat of the Hammers stopper, who punched the ball clear with ease.
D. Núñez
22' GOAAAALLLLL - LIVERPOOL 1-0 WEST HAM - Nunez showcases why Liverpool paid a hefty fee for his services in the summer with a beautiful header. Tsimikas's inch-perfect cross allowed Nunez to attack the ball, and he did just that, heading past Fabianski.
K. Tsimikas
22' Tsimikas is back in the team tonight ahead of Robertson, and the Scotland international may struggle to get his place back with crosses like that. What a delivery!
21' Salah has scored nine goals in 10 Premier League appearances against West Ham in his career, but the Liverpool ace has barely touched the ball tonight and may struggle to improve that record as it stands.
19' Van Dijk screams for a penalty after being blocked from reaching the ball at a corner, but the officials, and mainly referee Stuart Attwell, wave away the appeals.
17' Thiago's ambitious shot from the edge of the West Ham box fails to trouble Fabianski as Zouma got in the way first.
15' Nothing comes from the corner, with West Ham able to clear the ball away at the near post.
14' SAVE! Nunez gets everyone inside Anfield on their feet as his thunderous drive from outside the box is saved by Fabianski. The former Benfica man hit the ball on the half-volley, but Fabianski was on hand to tip his strike over the crossbar.
12' The weather is already playing its part tonight, with Cresswell's original run-up checked after the ball moved due to the wind. His second cross flew straight into the hands of Alisson, and it remains 0-0.
11' Thiago's clumsy challenge on Downes gifts West Ham a free-kick near the corner will be Cresswell that will take the set-piece.
10' Alexander-Arnold's first cross can only find the hands of Fabianski, but the West Ham stopper needed to intervene, with Nunez ready to fire home at the far post.
7' The Hammers have yet to create any opportunities of their own, but Moyes' side have started quickly and are putting pressure on everyone in Liverpool's colours.
5' Firmino wastes Liverpool's first shot on goal, blasting the ball well wide of Fabianski's goal. The Brazilian seemed to blame the surface, but all that matters is it remains 0-0.
2' Alisson is a lucky boy inside the first two minutes! The Brazilian's poor pass out from the back was intercepted by Rice, but the Reds defence reacted quickly to deal with the danger, with Van Dijk the one to smash the ball clear.
1' We are underway at Anfield.
The two teams are on the pitch at Anfield, and we are moments away from kick-off!
Liverpool have lost just one of their last 49 home league games against West Ham, going down 3-0 in August 2015 under Brendan Rodgers.
Klopp makes five changes to the team that beat City at the weekend, with right-back Alexander-Arnold back in defence. Henderson returns to captain the side, while Nunez makes only his fourth Premier League start. Robertson drops to the bench, while Diogo Jota is unavailable after suffering a serious calf injury, which means he will also miss the World Cup. Downes makes his first league start for the Hammers since his summer move from Swansea City, while Zouma and Fornals also return for Moyes' men. Coufal, Emerson and Lucas Paqueta are the three to drop out after the 1-1 draw at St Mary's.

West Ham are one of the form teams in the Premier League, with David Moyes' troops unbeaten in five matches in all competitions. The Hammers were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton last time out, but they did win four in a row before that.
Jurgen Klopp's side will hope to build on their impressive 1-0 victory over Manchester City last time out, with the Reds now unbeaten in two since they lost 3-2 to Arsenal. Even though they have yet to hit their stride this season, they are still unbeaten at home in all competitions.
Good evening and welcome to tonight's live coverage of the Premier League match between Liverpool and West Ham United from Anfield.
