Thanks for joining our commentary today. Until next time, goodbye.
Liverpool are at home again in their next Premier League outing against West Ham United on Wednesday. City will be looking to bounce back from their first loss when they face Brighton at home next Saturday.
Liverpool inflict the first defeat on Manchester City in the Premier League campaign, securing a 1-0 win at Anfield. Mohamed Salah marked a return to form with the decisive goal, scoring a sublime effort by turning Joao Cancelo before clipping his strike over Ederson. Salah had earlier missed a one-on-one, which looked to be costly when Phil Foden found the net. However, Foden's effort was disallowed by VAR for a foul by Erling Haaland on Fabinho. City were to rue the foul as they slump to their first loss of the season and are now four points off the pace of Arsenal at the top of the table.
90' + 10' De Bruyne sees his first cross cleared before his second attempt is gathered by Alisson.
90' + 10' City have one last chance to deliver a cross into the box from a free-kick that De Bruyne will deliver.

90' + 7' Haaland rises to connect with De Bruyne's cross, but Gomez provides pressure and it deflects off the back of his head and into the hands of Alisson.
90' + 6' CHANCE! Nunez breaks through down the left flank and only has to beat Ederson, but he scuffs his effort when going for the chip over the keeper.
90' + 4' CLOSE! Foden latches on to a pass from Ake and he delivers a perfect cross, but Dias cannot reach it on the slide in the middle. So close for the visitors.
90' + 2' WIDE! Nunez makes a great break down the left flank and fires a cross to the back post for Alexander-Arnold, but the full-back can only fire wide of the target on the stretch.

87' CHANCE! Nunez has the chance to end the game as Liverpool have a three on one on the break. However, he goes alone with a strike even though he has Salah in acres of space, and Dias charges down his effort.
85' RED CARD! Klopp is furious with the referee over the decision not to award a free-kick to his team for the incident with Salah and Silva. He goes too far with his appeal and is sent off from the touchline by the official.
85' Salah is pulled back by Silva down the right flank, but the referee waves away Liverpool's claim for a free-kick.
Thiago Alcântara
Yellow Card
84' Thiago slips as he slides into a challenge with Rodri. He catches his compatriot late and goes into the book.
84' SAVE! Foden works the ball to Gundogan to strike at goal on his right foot from the inside-right channel, but his effort is comfortably held by Alisson.
81' CLOSE! Van Dijk makes a vital intervention at the near post to steer a dangerous cross from Cancelo away from Haaland. He had to make that header, although City still have a corner.
80' Liverpool have avoided defeat in their last 35 matches when scoring the opening goal in the Premier League dating back to 28th February 2021 against Sheffield United.

Mohamed Salah
76' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! SALAH SCORES A SPECIAL GOAL!!!!!!! 1-0 LIVERPOOL!!!!!! Salah converts his one-on-one opportunity this time. Alisson creates the goal after claiming a poor cross from De Bruyne from a free-kick. He launches a kick downfield where Salah is left alone with Cancelo. Salah turns Cancelo out of his boots and is left through on goal against Ederson. This time he clips his effort over the onrushing City keeper and into the back of the net.

69' WIDE! Haaland tries to release Gundogan through the middle, but Van Dijk stops his run. Silva pounces on the loose ball, only to drag his left-footed strike wide of the target.
68' Liverpool find space on the break and Salah feeds the ball to Jota, but he cannot sort his feet out in time and gets crowded out.
67' Silva works a pass through to Gundogan in the box, but Gomez holds firm under pressure to divert the ball out for a corner.
66' Neither manager has gone to his bench yet. Nunez will be itching to make an impact for the Reds.
64' ALISSON DENIES HAALAND! Gundogan threads the ball through to Haaland in the box and he takes a touch to fire at goal on his left foot. The forward cannot quite get enough power on his strike and it allows Alisson to get down to push the ball away with a firm hand.
Yellow Card
63' Fabinho brings down Gundogan on the charge and goes into the book.
61' Elliott's first touch lets him down in the box as Jota's cross evades Akanji, but the delay in getting the strike away allows Ake to get across and deflect his effort out for a corner.
60' City are building their rhythm and are dominating possession at the moment. Liverpool are dug in deep, but are a threat on the counter.
58' BLOCK! City probe in the final third in an end-to-end game. Haaland cannot find a way to goal and finds Foden to tee up Gundogan, but Milner deflects his effort wide of the target.
56' CHANCE! Liverpool respond at the other end as Akanji clears only as far as Salah in the final third. He angles a cross to the back post for Jota to attack, but he sends his header inches over the bar.
55' DISALLOWED GOAL! Foden and City see their goal chalked off as Haaland fouls Fabinho in the build-up, pulling the shirt of the Brazilian. The Norwegian then latched on to a through ball from De Bruyne and knocked the ball away from Alisson. Foden pounced on the rebound to blast a strike past Gomez on the line to seemingly fire City ahead, but the goal is disallowed.
53' Foden has the ball in the back of the net, but there will be a VAR check against Haaland for fouling Fabinho in the build-up.
53' Ederson gets back to his feet and the game resumes.
51' Ederson remains down after the fact and requires treatment on his foot. Ortega goes through his warm-up routine on the sideline.
50' WHAT A SAVE! Ederson produces a brilliant stop to deny Salah. Firmino releases the forward through on goal with only the City keeper to beat. He tries to slot a left-footed strike past Ederson, but he gets the smallest of touches with his hand to push it past the post. A huge moment in the game.
46' Rodri collides with Thiago to send the Liverpool midfielder to the deck. He requires treatment before the game can continue.
46' We're back under way at Anfield.
Pep Guardiola seemed animated with his team, but he will enter the break the happier of the two managers. City have looked more dangerous in the final third, but just need to find their clinical edge. Liverpool have not been bad, but too are lacking quality with their final ball.
It is goalless at the break in the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield. City have had the better of the chances in the final third, but Erling Haaland planted a header straight at Alisson, while Ilkay Gundogan saw an effort from the edge of the box saved. Andy Robertson blasted over the bar at the other end, and Diogo Jota also failed to beat Ederson with a header from inside the penalty area. It is all up for grabs still in the second half.
45' + 1' City have a late dart before half-time, but Cancelo sees his strike from the edge of the box charged down by Robertson.
45' There will be one minute of added time.
44' There is a rare lull in the action as we approach the break. Both teams may just be wanting to get into half-time with the scoreline level.
41' Liverpool respond in turn as Elliott breaks down the right. He sees a shot deflected into the path of Salah, but he cannot corral it amid pressure from Dias.
40' SAVE! De Bruyne races into the final third and supplies a perfect cross to the back post for Haaland to power at goal. However, he plants his header straight at Alisson, who makes a comfortable save.
38' Liverpool respond with flowing football down the left flank, winning two corners in succession. Dias does well to block Robertson's cross after he is released by Firmino in the inside-left channel.
36' De Bruyne gets in behind the Liverpool defence for the first time, but Van Dijk gets across to block his cross behind for a corner.
35' CHANCE! Liverpool are furious as Rodri appears to foul Salah, but the referee waves play on. De Bruyne sees a cross deflected towards Haaland, but he can only loop a header over the bar. Klopp is not happy with the referee, although it is doubtful a City goal would have stood there.
34' Silva sends Foden down the left flank, but Gomez times his challenge to perfection to break up the attack.
33' SAVE! Haaland register his first effort at goal as he chases Ake's pass into the inside-left channel and has a yard on Van Dijk. He tries to loft his effort over Alisson, but he fails to generate the height and the Liverpool keeper makes the save.
31' WIDE! City break with pace and Haaland feeds Foden in the inside-left channel. The pass is a bit short so Foden has to bring the ball inside on his right foot. He cannot get a strike away and is forced back to Silva on the edge of the area. The Portuguese takes on the strike first-time, only to rifle his effort wide of the target.
30' Liverpool have taken the initiative in the contest and are asking questions of the City defence. The visitors are not used to being on the back foot.
28' Gomez hooks a long ball forward for the run of Salah, but the forward starts a fraction too early and is caught offside.
27' Salah collects in the final third and fends off Dias to find Elliott in space in the box. The midfielder has time to either pass or shoot, but dwells too long on the ball and loses out to Ake.
24' OVER! Robertson has to hit the target. Liverpool cut open the City defence as Thiago releases Jota, who sends a first-time offload out wide to Milner. He sends a dangerous cross into the middle that Ederson palms away. It lands straight to Robertson, only for the Scotland international to blaze his left-footed strike high over the bar.
21' CHANCE! Elliott collects in space on the left flank and he floats a cross to the back post. Jota is unmarked, but he can only plant a tame effort straight at Ederson.
20' Salah has a charge down the right flank and runs into the City box. He tries to get the better of Dias, but the defender does enough to send the ball out for a corner.
17' Liverpool play the ball nicely in the City half to open up space for Robertson. He angles a cross to the back post for Firmino to attack, but Ake does well to head clear in front of the Brazilian.
16' Haaland battles for possession and wins the ball for City in the final third. De Bruyne tries to release the forward with an incisive pass, but the Norwegian just cannot connect on the slide.
15' SAVE! City find space on the break and Haaland lines up a blast that is blocked. Foden then tries his luck, but shares the same fate. Gundogan gathers on the edge of the box and connects on the half-volley, only to see his effort saved by Alisson.
15' Robertson surges down the left flank and tries to combine with Firmino for a one-two, but his offload is intercepted by Cancelo tracking back.
13' Liverpool are trying not to overcommit when pushing forward. The Reds do have a makeshift backline, which could allow City to expose them on a counter.
11' When Liverpool are in possession, the home side are looking to move the ball with speed and increase the tempo of the contest. City on the other hand seem content to wait for their moment.
9' City are trying to settle into their possession game, but Liverpool are working on their press to push the visitors back.
7' Haaland fends off Gomez and then sends Cancelo down the right flank. Robertson provides pressure and the Portuguese can only send the ball behind for a goal-kick.
5' Haaland collects on the edge of the box, but pressure from Jota forces a quick offload from the forward towards Foden, which Gomez intercepts on the slide.
4' Robertson floats a cross into the box, but the City defence manage to clear their lines.
3' Silva and Robertson collide to present Liverpool with a free-kick inside the City half following a corner. A bright start from the hosts.
1' We're under way at Anfield.
Liverpool are winless in their last five Premier League games against Manchester City (D3 L2) – they’ve never gone six without a win against the Citizens in their league history.
City have also made five changes to their side from their draw against Copenhagen. Ake and Dias return to the fold to replace Gomez and Laporte at the back. Haaland was rested against Copenhagen and is restored as the spearhead alongside Silva and Foden. Grealish, Alvarez and Mahrez drop to the bench.
Klopp has made five changes to his side that beat Rangers last time out. He makes a big call in the middle of the park as Henderson is left out of the starting line-up. Thiago returns to the fold alongside Fabinho and Elliott in a three-man midfield. Nunez drops to the bench as Salah is recalled after his hat-trick. Jota also gets the nod in the final third. Robertson returns at the back for the hosts, while Milner slots into right-back as Gomez gets the start at centre-back.

Manchester City were held to a goalless draw in midweek against Copenhagen, although Pep Guardiola was carefully managing his key players ahead of the contest at Anfield. City have been dominant in the Premier League, dropping only four points in their opening nine matches, including their 4-0 hammering of Southampton last time out. Liverpool can cause them problems in the final third, so Guardiola and his team need to be firing on all cylinders.
Liverpool have been struggling for form in the Premier League this season, beginning the afternoon in 12th place and well off the pace of the leaders. The Reds suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Arsenal last week to damage their hopes of making ground, but did issue a response in the Champions League by hammering Rangers 7-1 on the road. Jurgen Klopp knows that he needs his team operating at the peak of their powers against their rivals.
