Leicester are next in action on the road to Liverpool on Friday, while Newcastle take on Leeds United at home on Saturday.
Newcastle United move up to second in the Premier League table courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. All three goals were scored in the first half in a dominant performance from the Magpies. Chris Wood converted from the penalty spot against his old club after Joelinton was fouled by Daniel Amartey. Miguel Almiron scored a sublime second to continue his impressive campaign, while Joelinton secured the three points before the break with a powerful header. The Foxes had a game to forget, while Eddie Howe and his side move within four points of top spot.
E. Anderson
S. Longstaff
Newcastle United
90' + 2' Longstaff makes way for Anderson in the Newcastle midfield.
90' + 1' Murphy fails to find the back of the net after rounding Ward and firing at goal as Faes makes a great block on the line. It's good desire from Faes, but it was offside anyway.
90' There will be three minutes of added time.
M. Ritchie
C. Wood
Newcastle United
88' Ritchie is on for Wood for the closing stages.
88' Pope makes a brilliant save to deny Vardy from close range, but it is moot anyway as the offside flag goes up late. The Newcastle keeper didn't know that and he highlights the determination to keep the clean sheet intact.
87' Ndidi latches on to a loose ball 25 yards out and sends an effort on the half-volley towards the net. Pope sees it late, but still makes a comfortable stop.
85' Thomas angles a ball forward for the run of Vardy, but he just cannot stretch to connect with the ball in the box.
J. Murphy
J. Willock
Newcastle United
84' Willock is withdrawn for the visitors and is replaced by Murphy.
A. Saint-Maximin
M. Almirón
Newcastle United
83' Saint-Maximin comes on in the closing stages for Almiron, who added another goal to his tally today.
82' Space opens up for Dewsbury-Hall on the edge of the box, only to see his let-footed strike charged down.
80' OFFSIDE! Perez floats a cross into the box for Iheanacho to attack, but he sees his header travel wide of the left post. However, the forward was offside anyway.
78' Guimaraes races over to the right flank to cover ground and he forces a mistake from Thomas, which he celebrates like scoring a goal.
76' Joelinton is down for the visitors and needs treatment. Howe might just be wary of keeping him on the field.
74' Iheanacho cuts in from the right flank and angles a strike towards goal, only to launch it well over the top.
W. Ndidi
B. Soumaré
Leicester City
72' Ndidi replaces Soumare for the hosts in the middle of the park.
K. Ịheanachọ
H. Barnes
Leicester City
71' Barnes has not been at his best today and is replaced by Iheanacho.
70' Willock latches on to a Trippier corner and has time and space to shoot. He connects on the half-volley, but his effort is tame and gathered by Ward.
69' Willock makes a good run to win a corner for the visitors as his cross is cleared behind by Amartey. Trippier's corner is cleared as far as Almiron, but his effort is charged down by a wall of blue shirts.
66' Vardy plays on the shoulder of the last Newcastle defender and collects the ball on the edge of the box. He turns to offload the ball, but sees the offside flag raised.
63' Almiron makes a good run behind the Leicester defence down the right flank, but his offload for once is off the mark to Longstaff.
61' INCHES WIDE! Barnes battles for the ball and he causes problems in the Newcastle defence. Burn comes in with a challenge and that deflects off Botman and trickles inches wide of the post. Newcastle have played extremely well this season, but it's fair to say that they've had their fair share of fortune too.
59' Vardy breaks down the right flank again and supplies a dangerous cross to the near post for Barnes, but he fails to connect.
57' Ward takes a gamble as he dives off his line to claim a corner from Trippier. The ball ricochets around the penalty area, but lands safely for the Foxes.
55' Newcastle are controlling the tempo of the game here. Leicester cannot get anything going.
53' The omens are not promising for a Leicester comeback. Newcastle have won their last six Premier League matches when leading at half-time dating back to a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool in August.
51' Vardy makes a run down the right flank and sends a low ball across the face of goal, but it evades the run of Barnes. The attack eventually peters out.
48' OVER! Botman latches on to a loose ball in the Leicester box and fires at goal on his left foot, sending his attempt narrowly over the bar.
46' We're back under way at the King Power Stadium.
J. Vardy
P. Daka
Leicester City
46' Daka had a difficult first half and is withdrawn by Rodgers.
For as good as Newcastle have been, Leicester have been equally as poor. The Foxes have been extremely lacklustre at the back as Daniel Amartey fouled Joelinton with a loose challenge, while Boubakary Soumare was weak in the air for the third. Patson Daka at the other end spurned two good chances to get the hosts back into the game at 2-0 down. It has been a day to forget so far for Leicester.
Newcastle are marching into second place in the Premier League as they hold a 3-0 lead over Leicester City at the break. Chris Wood put the Magpies ahead in the third minute from the penalty spot after Joelinton was fouled. Miguel Almiron then continued his outstanding season with a brilliant goal before Joelinton added a third with a powerful header. Eddie Howe's men have been dominant in the first half.
45' + 2' Tielemans looks for space in the final third to thread a pass through to Daka, but he sends his offload straight to Pope.
45' There will be three minutes of added time.
42' OVER! Willock is played into acres of space down the left flank. He has space and time to pick out an unmarked Wood, but he lifts his left-footed strike just over the bar.
39' Daka has room to run at the Newcastle defence, but he loses out to Longstaff, who stretches to knock it away from the forward.
38' Tielemans threads the needle to release Daka, but he goes for an inside offload and gets fortunate to win a corner.
37' Guimaraes collects in the final third and bends a strike towards goal that sails comfortably into the hands of Ward.
34' Newcastle have been all over the Foxes since the start. Rodgers' side are struggling to hide their frustration.
K. Trippier
Newcastle United
32' Trippier curls a fine cross to the back post for Joelinton to attack and head home.
Newcastle United
32' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!! JOELINTON HEADS HOME A THIRD!!!!! 3-0!!!!!! Newcastle pour on the agony for the home side as Joelinton uses his strength to power a header past Ward from a corner. Trippier angles a perfect cross into the penalty area from the right flank. Joelinton outmuscles Soumare at the back post to power his header past a stranded Ward. Newcastle are in command here.
30' Daka and Barnes collide into each other in the build-up to the Joelinton run. Fortunately for the Foxes, both men are back on their feet.
30' Ward takes a huge gamble at the back to race off his line to knock the ball away from Joelinton. He just gets a foot in to clear into touch.
28' Daka makes a good run down the right flank and sends a pass behind for Dewsbury-Hall's run, but Schar races round to clear into touch.
26' Daka again collects in space and bursts forward towards the edge of the box. Botman gets back to brush him off the ball before he can shoot, while Barnes and Dewsbury-Hall are not happy with their team-mate for failing to offload.
24' Leicester are starting to grow into the game, but the fact they handed Newcastle a two-goal lead will be very difficult for them to overcome.
22' CHANCE! Daka latches on to Dewsbury-Hall's throughball and bursts through on goal. He clips the ball over Pope, but falls down as it trickles towards goal. Botman is alert to sweep away the loose ball before it crosses the line.
20' Tielemans sums up Leicester's start to the game as he plays a pass from a free-kick straight down the right flank where there are no blue shirt. He gestures to his team-mates, but no one was on the same page there.
18' Newcastle look to break with numbers from a Leicester corner. Dewsbury-Hall has to get back to intercept a dangerous pass from Guimaraes towards Longstaff.
Ayoze Pérez
D. Praet
Leicester City
17' Perez enters the game to replace the injured Praet.
17' Daka releases Barnes down the left flank, but is on his heels from the cutback from the Leicester winger.
15' Praet remains down for the home side and may have to be withdrawn here. He got a blow to the ribs from Joelinton's knee.
13' Praet takes a knock as Joelinton rises to power a header at goal, which is blocked by Castagne. Newcastle are all over the Foxes here.
11' Joelinton is receiving treatment on a knock at the side of the pitch. Howe will not want to lose the influential Brazilian.
10' OVER! Thomas collects on the left flank and steers a low cross towards Daka, but he scuffs his first-time effort over the bar.
9' Newcastle have scored 15 first-half goals in 16 games, only Manchester City (20) have scored more in the Premier League this season.
Bruno Guimarães
Newcastle United
7' Bruno collects an offload from Almiron and releases the forward with a brilliant pass for him to collect and score.

Newcastle United
7' WHAT A GOAL!!!! ALMIRON SCORES A BRILLIANT FINISH!!!!! 2-0 NEWCASTLE!!!!!! Almiron places a low strike into the bottom-right corner following a brilliant move. Almiron cuts in from the right flank and plays a one-two with Bruno, who cuts open the Leicester defence with ease. Almiron takes a great first touch and his second is even better as he guides his finish past Ward.
5' Newcastle break forward in numbers and find space in the final third. Guimaraes turns to fire at goal, but his effort is diverted behind for a corner.
4' Barnes and Dewsbury-Hall combine down the left flank, but the cross from the latter sails over the head of Daka.
C. Wood
Penalty Goal
Newcastle United
3' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! WOOD HAMMERS HOME THE PENALTY!!!! 1-0 NEWCASTLE!!! Wood keeps his composure from 12 yards against his former club. The New Zealander blasts his effort straight down the middle as Ward dives early to his left.
2' PENALTY TO NEWCASTLE! Amartey catches Joelinton with a poor challenge in the box and the referee points to the spot.
2' Willock looks to thread a pass through to Longstaff, but the ball just bounces away from the midfielder and into the path of Ward.
1' We're under way at the King Power Stadium.

Newcastle have made one change to their side from their triumph over Bournemouth in the EFL Cup. Callum Wilson misses out due to illness and is replaced by Wood. Almiron and Joelinton support the forward in the final third, with Alexander Isak still missing due to injury.

Daka comes into the side for Vardy to lead the line, while Dewsbury-Hall replaces Perez behind the lone striker. There's no place for James Maddison as he recovers from his injury sustained before the World Cup.

Newcastle were the form team in the Premier League before the World Cup break. Eddie Howe's men have been nothing short of sensational this term and remain in contention for the Premier League title as well as top-four finish. The Magpies will be hopeful that the break has not disturbed their momentum, but they were solid last week to advance to the EFL Cup quarter-finals by beating Bournemouth. Howe will want his side to press home their strong position into the new year.
Leicester return to Premier League action for the first time in six weeks following the World Cup break. The Foxes did punch their ticket to the EFL Cup quarter-finals last week by beating MK Dons. Before the break, Leicester were in the midst of a revival after their slow start to the season. Brendan Rodgers' men had won four out of their last five, including a 2-0 win over West Ham United in their last top-flight game. They will be hoping to maintain their momentum today.
