Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Brentford can still play a decisive role in the Premier League relegation battle when they take on Everton next Sunday at Goodison Park. Southampton are next in action against Liverpool on May 17 on home soil.
Brentford secure a 3-0 win over Southampton to surely confirm their place in the Premier League next term. Pontus Jansson put the home side ahead from close range before Yoane Wissa added a second a minute later with a composed finish. The Saints wasted opportunities in front of goal throughout the afternoon. The home side finally put them out of their misery when Kristoffer Ajer found the net in the 79th minute with a brilliant turn and strike. Ralph Hasenhuttl was jeered by sections of Southampton supporters, putting Austrian under pressure in his role as the season reaches its climax.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: BRENTFORD 3-0 SOUTHAMPTON
90' + 3' Perraud fails to find a team-mate in the box with his cross as he lifts the ball over the top for a goal-kick. That should be it.
90' There will be three minutes of added time.
88' Redmond runs down the left flank and delivers a hopeful ball into the box, but Raya comes through a crowd to make a comfortable claim.
N. Young-Coombes
M. Jensen
87' Young-Coombes enters the fold for the Bees in the middle of the park to replace Jensen.
86' Brentford have scored 14 goals in the last 15 minutes of the second half, only Liverpool (20) and Manchester City (17) have scored more in the Premier League this season.
84' Hasenhuttl is being jeered by the Southampton fans. There are chants of 'you don't know what you're doing' and 'sacked in the morning'. It has been a tough afternoon for the Saints and their fans.
Oriol Romeu
S. Armstrong
83' Romeu replaces Stuart Armstrong to ensure that Brentford cannot add further goals to the scoreline.
S. Baptiste
B. Mbeumo
81' Baptiste replace Mbeumo for the closing stages of the game.
C. Nørgaard

79' Norgaard releases the run of Ajer in the Southampton box, who does the rest with a cool finish.
K. Ajer
Goal
79' WHAT A FINISH BY AJER!!!!!! BRENTFORD 3-0!!!!!!! The home side kill off the game as Ajer produces a fine turn and strike in the box. Brentford knock the ball around the edge of the Southampton penalty area before Norgaard picks out Ajer. He skips past Perraud and Salisiu before slotting his effort under Forster into the back of the net. Cool as you like.
78' CHANCES! Brentford should kill the game off, but Mbeumo and Jansson fail to find the net. Norgaard heads a corner towards the forward in the six-yard box, but he loses his footing as he goes for the strike. The rebound finds its way to Jansson, who sees his left-footed effort blocked by Elyounoussi. A shot then comes in from distance from Jensen that sails well over the bar.
76' SAVE! Stuart Armstrong latches on to Ward-Prowse's deflected corner on the edge of the box and curls an effort at goal that Raya watches safely into his gloves.
75' OVER! Ward-Prowse lines up the resulting free-kick, but once again sees his effort strike the wall, only on this occasion the ball loops over the bar.
74' Norgaard brings down Stuart Armstrong in the final third with a loose challenge that will present Ward-Prowse with another chance at goal from the free-kick.
73' SAVE! Redmond bursts down the left flank and delivers a low cross into the middle that is cleared as far as Elyounoussi. The winger takes a touch before firing at goal, but Raya gets across to his right to make the stop.
70' Brentford have control of the scoreline, but a goal for the Saints would make life very interesting. The Bees have not been that solid at the back.
J. Dasilva
Y. Wissa
68' Wissa was excellent this afternoon, scoring a fine goal to put Brentford ahead and he should have had a second. Dasilva replaces the winger in the final third.
66' Ward-Prowse feeds Adam Armstrong into space down the left-inside channel with a quick pass from a free-kick. The forward angles a cross to the back post, but it just evades Salisu and goes behind. It has been that sort of day for the Saints.
M. Elyounoussi
I. Diallo
64' Elyounoussi enters the action for the visitors as he replaces Diallo. An attacking move from Hasenhuttl.
63' Eriksen bends the resulting corner into the box where Norgaard rises at the back post, but he glances his header wide of the right post.
62' BLOCK! Eriksen rolls an offload into the box for Toney to shoot on the turn, but his effort is charged down by Salisu and travels behind for a corner.
61' Walker-Peters tries to angle a low cross to the near post from the right flank for Adam Armstrong. Raya is decisive and makes the claim for the home side.
59' WIDE! Stuart Armstrong finds space down the right flank to whip a cross into the box. Broja gets free of his marker in the penalty area, but glances his header wide of the left post.
58' Jansson is back on his feet and appears to be okay to continue.
57' Jansson takes a knock to the head as he challenges for a long throw from Sorensen. The fist of Forster catches him in the back of the head and he requires treatment before we can continue.
55' Perraud makes a vital interception in the box as he clears Wissa's dangerous cutback from the left flank away from the late arriving Jensen.
54' Toney tries to latch on to a flick around the corner from Wissa on the edge of the Southampton box, but Forster is sharp off his line to clear the danger with an acrobatic kick.
53' OVER! Redmond has space down the left flank and he cuts inside to shoot on his right foot, only to blaze his effort over the bar.
49' CHANCE! Wissa's sliding challenge inadvertently knocks the ball into the path of Broja in the Brentford box. Raya and the forward collide before the ball almost falls for Adam Armstrong. However, Ajer makes a vital challenge to knock it away from the former Blackburn Rovers man.
47' Southampton have not won a match in the Premier League this season when trailing at the break.
46' We're back under way at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Ralph Hasenhuttl will be disappointed with his side's performance in both boxes. They've controlled possession, but have not been able to make it count. The home side have been very effective on the break and another goal would surely take the contest away from the Saints once and for all.
Brentford hold a 2-0 lead over Southampton at the break in their Premier League clash. Goals from Pontus Jansson and Yoane Wissa put the home side in command of the scoreline, but the Saints were guilty of a host of missed opportunities. Whereas the Bees were clinical in the opening 15 minutes, the visitors failed to capitalise on their good play in the final third and face an uphill challenge in the second half to earn a positive result.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: BRENTFORD 2-0 SOUTHAMPTON
45' + 2' Eriksen wins the ball in the Southampton half and feeds Mbeumo down the inside-right channel. The forward looks for Toney, but Bednarek makes a vital interception at the near post.
45' There will be two minutes of added time.
44' DISALLOWED GOAL! Armstrong latches on to Salisu's block of Eriksen's pass and produces a clinical finish past Raya. However, his celebrations are short lived as the flag is up for offside. Nothing is going Southampton's way in the first half.
43' Southampton are still struggling to pick up Toney's movement from set-piece. He again latches on to a deep cross from Eriksen, but blazes his effort behind for a goal-kick.
42' SAVE! Broja turns away from Sorensen on the edge of the Brentford box and fires at goal on his left foot, but Raya makes the save before gathering at the second attempt.
39' Eriksen has provided three assists for Brentford in the Premier League (nine apps), one more than he registered for Inter Milan in 43 Serie A appearances (2).
38' Broja turns well on the edge of the box and feeds Adam Armstrong. He opts against a strike and finds Walker-Peters, but he sends his delivery from the right flank straight into the hands of Raya.
35' WIDE! Perraud sends a dangerous cross into the Brentford box from the left flank that Broja attacks. However, he can only guide his left-footed strike wide of the right post. The Saints have been wasteful in front of goal.
32' Jansson is down for the home side and requires treatment, but he appears to be okay to continue.
31' SAVE AND OVER! Eriksen releases Toney on the counter and the forward takes a neat touch past Perraud. He surges into the inside-right channel before firing at goal. Forster makes a fine stop, but Mbeumo pounces on the rebound, only to scoop his effort over the bar.
31' BLOCK! Ward-Prowse goes for power with his strike, but launches his effort straight into the Brentford wall that stands firm before the Bees clear the danger.
29' Sorsensen is right on the back of Adam Armstrong as he tries to turn on the edge of the box. The referee awards a free-kick to the visitors in a dangerous position, which will surely have Ward-Prowse licking his lips.
27' OVER! Again the Saints have a good chance to get back into the game. Ajer fails to clear Ward-Prowse's cross into the box the Stuart Armstrong sends back into the middle. Walker-Peters makes a late run into the middle to connect, but he steers his header over the bar.
26' Brentford are unbeaten in 10 matches in the Premier League when scoring the opening goal, winning eight of those contests.
24' Southampton are on the attack again as Redmond releases Ward-Prowse down the inside-right channel. The midfielder does well to hook it back into the middle, but Broja can only direct a harmless header at Raya.
22' SAVE! The Saints continue to look for a way back into the game. Broja has a fresh air swing at Redmond's cross before Ward-Prowse sees his curling strike from distance well held by a diving Raya.
21' CHANCE! Ajer has to be alert at the back post to steer the ball away from Broja as the forward almost pounces on Walker-Peters' header across the face of goal.
18' WISSA SHOULD MAKE IT THREE!!! Eriksen lifts a cross deep from the resulting free-kick that Toney drives across the face of goal. Wissa has a simple finish at the back post, but he steers it over the bar as he jostles with Walker-Peters. The Brentford man wants a penalty, but the referee points only for a goal-kick.
I. Diallo
Yellow Card
17' Diallo brings Wissa on the charge down the left flank, barging the forward off the ball. He goes into the book for his challenge.
16' BLOCK! The Saints try to hit back as Redmond's cross finds Broja in the box, but his effort is blocked by Jansson before it can threaten Raya's goal.
15' Southampton have conceded 12 goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half, more than any other team in the Premier League this season.
C. Eriksen
Assist
14' Eriksen makes a probing run into the Southampton half before he gets felled. Wissa gathers the loose ball after the Dane nudges it forward and then holds his composure to score.
Y. Wissa
Goal
14' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! BRENTFORD HAVE TWO IN TWO MINUTES!!!!!!! 2-0!!!!!! Wissa gets on the scoresheet with a composed finish to double the Bees' advantage. Eriksen makes a good forward run into the Southampton half, but gets brought down. Wissa gathers the loose ball and surges into the box before calmly placing his effort away from Forster into the bottom-right corner.
I. Toney
Assist
13' Toney takes Eriksen's corner out of the air and brings the ball down. He fires it low and hard towards the near post where Jansson sticks out a boot to convert the opening.
P. Jansson
Goal
13' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!! JANSSON PUTS BRENTFORD AHEAD!!!!! 1-0!!!! The home side take the lead as Jansson converts from Toney's cutback at the near post. Eriksen launches a corner deep into the middle from the right flank that Toney takes out of the air. He fakes the strike and then has space to drill a low cross towards the near post. Jansson sticks out a boot and does enough to steer it past Forster.
12' Mbeumo makes another run down the right flank and has Toney in space in the box, but Salisu is there to divert his cross behind for a corner.
10' OVER! Ajer feeds Mbeumo in the Southampton box and he goes down, but manages to offload on the deck towards Eriksen. The Dane lines up a first-time blast, but launches his effort over the top.
9' SAVE! Wissa makes a break after latching onto Toney's flick. He bursts into the box and opens up space to strike, but his effort is saved by Forster.
8' CHANCE! Jensen scuffs a great opening wide from close range. Henry is played down the left flank by Wissa and the full-back drives a low ball to the back post. It evades Forster, but Jensen cannot turn home his effort amid pressure from Perraud.
6' Southampton have made a lively start to the game and are trying to apply a press high up the pitch on the home side.
4' WIDE! Perraud makes a dangerous break down the left flank and he cuts back to beat the challenge of Ajer. He fires low and hard towards goal, but sends his effort wide of the target.
3' SAVE! Raya is closed down at the back by Broja and the loose ball deflects to Redmond. He slides an offload back to Broja, who tees up Adam Armstrong to fire at goal, but his effort is saved by the Brentford keeper. The offside flag goes up late, but Raya and his team-mates have been warned.
1' A long throw into the Southampton box from Sorensen is cleared as far as Jensen on the edge of the box. He hooks the ball back into the box, but it just evades Norgaard and Forster gathers.
1' We're under way at Brentford Community Stadium.
Brentford are winless in their last five home games against Southampton in all competitions (D2 L3), with this the first time they’re hosting Saints since a 3-0 loss in League One in April 2011.
Southampton have made four changes to their side from their loss to Crystal Palace last time out. Hasenhuttl alters his front two as Broja and Adam Armstrong come into the side in place of Long and Adams, who drop to the bench. Stuart Armstrong starts on the right flank for Tella, while Diallo slots into the midfield in place of Romeu.
Brentford have made two changes to their side from their defeat to Manchester United. Wissa comes into the final third to replace Janelt, while Jensen gets the call to start in the middle of the park. Rasmussen drops out of the side along with Janelt to the bench.
SOUTHAMPTON SUBS: Alex McCarthy, Lyanco, Oriol Romeu, Shane Long, Che Adams, Nathan Tella, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Yan Valery, Tyler Dibling.
SOUTHAMPTON (4-4-2): Fraser Forster; Kyle Walker-Peters, Jan Bednarek, Mohammed Salisu, Romain Perraud; Stuart Armstrong, James Ward-Prowse, Ibrahima Diallo, Nathan Redmond; Adam Armstrong, Armando Broja.
BRENTFORD SUBS: Josh Dasilva, Julian Jeanvier, Tarique Fosu-Mensah, Shandon Baptiste, Vitaly Janelt, Mads Roerslev Rasmussen, Finley Stevens, Nathan Young-Coombes, Jonas.
BRENTFORD (4-3-3): David Raya; Kristoffer Ajer, Pontus Jansson, Mads Bech Sorensen, Rico Henry; Mathias Jensen, Christian Norgaard, Christian Eriksen; Bryan Mbeumo, Ivan Toney, Yoane Wissa.
Southampton cannot afford to relax too much as well sitting only eight points clear of the relegation zone, with Everton's two games in hand very much putting the entire situation at the bottom in flux. The Saints have won only one of their last 10 matches in all competitions and have struggled on the road since beating Tottenham in February. Ralph Hasenhuttl and his side will want to regain a semblance of momentum before the end of the campaign, putting pressure on the Austrian and his team to get a result.
Brentford suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Monday, meaning that the club can not entirely relax about their Premier League status for next season. Results elsewhere will have just made the Bees a tad anxious to get the one more victory that will ensure that they will remain in the top flight. Thomas Frank's men are unbeaten in their last three matches at home, playing out a 0-0 draw against Tottenham last time out. Brentford will be keen to continue their impressive home record.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Brentford and Southampton at the Brentford Community Stadium.
