Bengaluru FC beat reigning champions ATK 2-0 to consolidate their position at the top of the table. A third-minute own-goal by ATK captain Jordi Figueras and an 83rd-minute strike from Miku sealed full points for the Blues.
Ashley Westwood made three changes in the ATK starting XI which went down 0-1 against Jamshedpur FC last week. Ryan Taylor was back from his suspension and replaced David Cotterill. Bipin Singh and Darren Caldeira came in place of Hitesh Sharma and Robin Singh.
For Bengaluru FC, Rahul Bheke replaced Harmanjyot Khabra at right-back. Khabra, who picked up his fourth yellow card against NorthEast United, was suspended for this game.
Bengaluru drew first blood in the third minute of the match thanks to a stunning own goal from ATK captain Jordi Figueras. The centre-back found the back of his own net from Udanta Singh’s square pass.
The move started with a long ball from Edu Garcia to Udanta Singh on the right flank. The Indian winger squared the ball for Miku inside the box. Jordi with the intention to clear, mistakenly put the ball into his own net.
Jayesh Rane could have restored parity for ATK in the 32nd minute but his header came off the post.
ATK started the second half on a positive note and looked hungry for an equaliser. Ashley Westwood introduced captain Robbie Keane in the 54th minute.
Jayesh Rane missed an easy chance to equalise in the 68th minute from Bipin Singh’s cross. Rane had to tap the ball into the net from close-range but his shot flew over the crossbar.
Bengaluru were reduced to 10 men in the 69th minute when Rahul Bheke got his second yellow card and received the marching orders for a tackle on Jayesh Rane.
Miku could have doubled the lead in the 72nd minute after he snatched the ball from Debjit Majumder. The Venezuelan striker kept the ball on target but Ashutosh Mehta cleared the ball off the goal line.
The Bengaluru FC striker finally scored his 10th goal of the season in the 83rd minute to double his side’s lead. Erik Paaratalu forwarded a long ball for Miku who outpaced Jordi and found the back of the net with a calm and composed finish.
The goal ensured that ATK suffered a fourth defeat on the trot for the first time in the club's history.
