Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Villa are next in action against Everton at home next Friday, while Bournemouth face Manchester City at home next Sunday.
Bournemouth claim their first win of the Premier League season, defeating Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park. Josh King handed them the lead in the second minute after Callum Wilson was brought down in the box by Tom Heaton. Harry Wilson extended their lead with a strike from 20 yards following a mistake by Douglas Luiz. John McGinn was denied by Aaron Ramsdale in his attempt to bring Villa back into the contest, while Wesley and Trezegeut also missed opportunities. The Cherries failed to kill the game off in the second half as Ryan Fraser, Harry Wilson and Josh King were all thwarted. Douglas Luiz got the home side back into the game with a super strike from distance, but Dean Smith's men could not find a second goal, slumping to their second defeat of the term.
90' + 5' Mings wins the ball from the free-kick on the right flank and floats it towards the back post, but Engels cannot force it towards goal.
90' + 5' Wesley wins a free-kick just inside the Bournemouth half. Grealish will float the ball forward.
90' + 3' Bournemouth are killing the clock effectively to frustrate the home side. Villa are running out of time.
90' + 2' WIDE! Bournemouth go for the kill once again. Wilson offloads to Fraser, who weaves his way into space, but sees his strike deflected into the sidenetting by El Mohamady.
90' There will be five minutes of added time.
88' Wesley wins the ball down the left flank from Daniels. However, he waits too long to make his decision for a cutback into the box, allowing Bournemouth to regroup. El Mohamady eventually whips a cross into the penalty area and McGinn rises to head at the target, but his looping header is comfortably saved.
87' Jota cuts inside from the right flank and sends a left-footed strike towards the target, but Ramsdale makes the save.
K. Davis
Aston Villa
87' Davis replaces Trezeguet to the final three minutes of the game.
84' CLOSE! Heaton comes off his line to attempt to gather a looping ball into the box. Wilson blocks him off legally and it lands at the feet of King. He tries to tee up Solanke for a strike, but he cannot reach to make clean contact. Villa somehow escape as Mings clears the danger.
82' SAVE! Fraser has the opportunity to kill off the contest on a counter down the left flank. The winger fires his strike low towards goal, but Heaton makes a block with his legs.
81' McGinn has been impressive throughout the contest. He takes charge in the middle of the park again before driving towards goal. The Scot shapes to shoot, only to pull his attempt wide of the target.
80' Jota does well in the middle of the park to escape the attention of Surman. He floats a cross into the box for Taylor to attack, but he fails to connect with his header and it travels in the wrong direction away from goal.
78' Villa need composure in the closing minutes to get an equaliser. Grealish fails to rise to the occasion, bending his cross from the left out for a goal-kick.
D. Solanke
H. Wilson
AFC Bournemouth
76' Harry Wilson is withdrawn for Solanke in the final third.
Jota Peleteiro
A. El Ghazi
Aston Villa
75' Jota replaces El Ghazi for the hosts.
73' Trezeguet clips the heels of King in the box, who goes down. The incident is not picked up by the referee or VAR, which could be interesting if Villa get an equaliser.
J. Grealish
Aston Villa
71' Grealish fails to pick out a team-mate with his corner, but his second offload is on the money, finding Douglas Luiz to score.
Douglas Luiz
Aston Villa
71' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! DOUGLAS LUIZ SCORES A STUNNER!!! GAME ON!!!! Villa are back in the game and Douglas Luiz atones for his mistake with a brilliant finish from the edge of the box. It comes from a failed corner from the hosts as Grealish's first delivery is poor, but he gets the ball back and feeds the Brazilian. Douglas Luiz takes a touch before bending an right-footed effort into the top right corner. There's plenty of time left in this game.
69' Villa are running out of time to break back into the match. Dean Smith has resisted changes thus far, but he may have to turn to his bench sooner rather than later.
67' SAVE! Trezeguet twists and turns in the final third to create room for a strike at goal. He goes low towards the bottom right corner, only to be denied by a fine save from Ramsdale.
65' The two Wilsons combine down the right flank for Bournemouth. Callum plays a one-two with Harry to break into the inside channel before firing a low ball across the face of goal. However, it just evades King in the middle, who would have had a tap-in.
63' GREALISH HAS TO SCORE! The midfielder makes a late run into the box to make contact with El Mohamady's cross from the right. He gets ahead of Cook and heads towards goal, only to place his effort over the bar.
61' Grealish looks for the run of El Ghazi down the left flank, but the winger mistimes his run and is caught offside.
60' Fraser releases King into space down the left and he has Callum Wilson surging through the middle. Mings has to stop the cross and does so with a full-blooded challenge, winning the ball with a precise sliding tackle.
N. Aké
Yellow Card
AFC Bournemouth
59' Ake goes into the book for a lunge on McGinn.
59' Callum Wilson carries the ball forward before finding Harry Wilson on the right flank. The winger cuts inside to shoot on his left foot, but Douglas Luiz is well placed again to make an important block.
57' BLOCK! All hands on deck for the Cherries at the back again. Cook puts his body on the line with another fine block to stop Taylor's strike from the left inside channel after he latched on to El Mohamady's cross.
55' We're back underway and Adam Smith has a new shirt.
54' Adam Smith was committed in his challenge to disrupt Grealish's attempt, but he takes a blow to the face in the process. He requires treatment before we can continue.
53' CHANCE! Grealish surges forward from the middle of the park after a quickly-taken free-kick catches Bournemouth out at the back. He curls an effort towards goal, but it drifts just wide of the post.
51' Cook has carved out a reputation as a no-nonsense defender and he proves a point by putting his body on the line to head away El Mohamady's cross from Wesley.
50' Harry Wilson rolls the ball towards King on the edge of the Villa box. He tries to squeeze out space for a strike, but Douglas Luiz makes a good challenge to dispossess the Bournemouth forward.
48' VAR! Wesley goes down in the box under Ramsdale's challenge as the two players battle for the ball from El Ghazi's knockdown. The video referee takes a look and deems that it was not a foul from the Bournemouth keeper.
46' We're back underway at Villa Park.
A. Surman
P. Billing
AFC Bournemouth
46' A wise move from Howe to withdraw Billing at the break. Surman replaces him in the middle of the park.
It has been an open game to say the least, and that could play into Villa's hands in the second half. Phillip Billing has been very close to earning his second booking of the match on a couple of occasions. Dean Smith and his team will be quick to remind Martin Atkinson of that fact at the interval. Expect more goals to be score in this one as both sides have been dangerous in the final third.
Bournemouth lead Aston Villa 2-0 at the break at Villa Park, although the scoreline does not quite tell the story of the game. The Cherries were handed the perfect start to the contest when Callum Wilson was brought down by Tom Heaton in the first minute. Josh King converted from 12 yards to put the visitors ahead. Harry Wilson doubled their advantage after seizing on a mistake by Douglas Luiz on the edge of the box. Villa have come close to getting back into the game through John McGinn, who has seen two efforts well saved by Aaron Ramsdale. Wesley and Trezeguet have also gone close, but the Villans have not managed to get the breakthrough.
45' + 4' McGinn lines up another strike from distance, although this one is deflected over the bar to end the half.
45' + 3' BLOCK! Ake ensures that Bournemouth take a 2-0 lead into the break with a vital intervention. Wesley runs down the left flank and sends a low cross into the middle. Trezeguet sweeps the ball towards the net, but the Dutchman is there to deny Villa a way back into the game.
45' + 1' Billing again commits a foul, colliding with McGinn. It's not a vicious challenge, although they're totting up for the midfielder.
45' + 1' McGinn hooks the resulting free-kick into the box, but Ramsdale comes off his line to make a comfortable claim.
45' There will be three minutes of added time.
45' SAVE! Heaton keeps Villa in the game to deny Harry Wilson. King rolls the ball to the winger on the charge down the right inside channel. He cannot quite connect properly, but the Welshman still prods a left-footed strike towards goal. Heaton reacts well to make the save before Engels clears the danger from the rebound.
44' Fraser and El Mohamady tangle down the left flank. The Bournemouth winger earns the free-kick and goes down clutching his chest as the Villa man tries to get the ball from his mid-section. There was not a lot of contact after the fact, although it was still a foul.
43' CLOSE! McGinn goes close for the third time of the afternoon. He lines up a strike from 25 yards from the right side of the pitch. It travels with speed towards the top corner, but it clips the sidenetting rather than the inside of the goal.
42' Billing has to be careful as he gives away another foul - this time he brings down Douglas Luiz in the Villa half. Referee Atkinson may have given the midfielder his final warning.
41' El Mohamady releases Trezeguet down the right flank and the forward does well to fire a low ball into the middle. However, it evades the claret and blue shirts in the middle, allowing the visitors to clear their lines.
39' Harry Wilson causes problems in the final third, running at the Villa defence. He offloads towards Callum Wilson with his back to goal. The forward picks out Billing, who can only send his strike over the top.
37' Billing slides in on Grealish, who stays down on the deck. However, the referee sees nothing wrong with the challenge.
P. Billing
Yellow Card
AFC Bournemouth
36' Billing brings down McGinn on a surge through the middle and goes into the book.
36' El Ghazi tries to work the ball into the feet of Wesley in the box, but the striker is caught offside. There's a bit of shoving in the box between King and the Villa forward. Mings pulls his team-mate away from the scuffle.
34' It has not been a comfortable half for Bournemouth as Villa have been active in the final. The Cherries are having to work hard at the back in what has been a very open game.
32' End-to-end action as Smith quells a Villa counter by racing ahead of Wesley to clear away, while Mings has to be alert to cut out Billing's attempted throughball for Callum Wilson over the top.
31' Taylor commits a cynical challenge, bringing down Harry Wilson from behind. However, there's no booking for the full-back.
30' Trezeguet tries to bundle his way through a crowd of defenders on the edge of the Bournemouth box. He goes for a strike at goal, but Cook takes the pace off the ball and allows Ramsdale to gather.
28' WIDE! Daniels shows his attributes at the other end of the pitch. He curls a cross deep to the back post where Harry Wilson waits. He goes for the first-time strike on his left foot, only to scuff his attempt wide of the target.
27' Daniels does well at the back post for the visitors to clear Taylor's cross behind under pressure from El Mohamady. He had to win that header for the Cherries.
26' SAVE! Wesley is denied by Ramsdale as Villa up the ante in the final third. Taylor surges down the left flank and sends a low cross towards the near post. Wesley rolls Cook and fires towards the left bottom corner, but the Bournemouth keeper makes a good reaction stop.
24' There has been lots of effort from Villa to get back into the contest, but their execution has been poor this afternoon.
22' SAVE! McGinn seizes on a mistake from Daniels and takes a strike on the half-volley 20 yards from goal. Ramsdale makes the block before Ake is on hand to clear the rebound over the bar.
21' The resulting corner pinballs around the penalty area. Mings has to act to clear his lines ahead of Callum Wilson from Fraser's delivery. It's all tense at the back for the home side.
20' CLOSE! Douglas Luiz comes within inches of scoring an own goal. Villa lose possession in their own half and King leads the charge for the Cherries. He feeds Callum Wilson down the right inside channel, who hammers a low ball across the face of goal. Douglas Luiz goes to clear it, only to slice the ball over his own crossbar. Very close to a third Bournemouth goal.
19' Howe will be delighted with his side's start to the game. It has been a perfect road performance thus far.
17' OVER! El Ghazi takes on the free-kick on the edge of the box, but he sends his right-footed strike comfortably over the bar. Not the best effort from the Villa winger.
16' Grealish weaves his way into the final third and takes on Cook. The Bournemouth skipper brings down his opposite number on the edge of the box, handing Villa a shooting opportunity.
14' Aston Villa have been rocked by Bournemouth's start to the game. Unfortunately for Dean Smith it has been all of their own making as mistakes have cost the home side at the back. There's still time for them to launch a comeback, but they're going to have to be flawless for the rest of the contest.
H. Wilson
AFC Bournemouth
12' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! HARRY WILSON DOUBLES BOURNEMOUTH'S LEAD!!! 2-0!!! The visitors extend their advantage to stun Villa Park into silence. Douglas Luiz makes a horrendous mistake on the edge of his own box as he dummies El Mohamady's offload. Harry Wilson is right behind him and seizes on the loose ball. He works it on to his left foot before firing at goal. The strike takes a deflection off Mings before hitting the inside of the left post and rolling into the back of the net. Bournemouth are enjoying a great start this afternoon.
11' Fraser and Daniels probe down the left flank, but the latter sees his low cross diverted away from danger by Engels.
9' Douglas Luiz collects the ball from the resulting corner and is encouraged to shoot from distance, only to see his effort charged down by Wilson.
9' SAVE! Villa come close to a response as McGinn sees a strike from distance turned over the bar by Ramsdale. Grealish is brought on the charge, but the referee plays advantage. The Scot takes on the strike from 25 yards, but the Bournemouth keeper is equal to the challenge, denying the midfielder his second of the campaign.
8' Grealish takes the resulting free-kick, but his delivery is disappointing and is cleared by the first Bournemouth defender.
7' Trezeguet is brought down by Lerma on the edge of the box on the right flank. Villa have a free-kick in a decent position.
4' Wilson cuts in from the right flank for the visitors and he fires at goal on his left foot from 20 yards. However, he can only send his attempt over the bar.
3' El Mohamady floats a cross to the back post after a raid down the right flank. However, El Ghazi can only make glancing contact with his header, sending it wide of the post.
J. King
Penalty Goal
AFC Bournemouth
2' GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!! KING FIRES HOME!!! 1-0 BOURNEMOUTH! The Cherries take the lead as King makes no mistake from 12 yards. He places the ball in the left bottom corner, sending Heaton the wrong way. A nightmare start for the home side.
1' PENALTY TO BOURNEMOUTH! Drama in the opening minute of the game as Fraser threads a throughball down the left inside channel for Callum Wilson. The striker gets there ahead of Heaton, who trips the Bournemouth man. Referee Martin Atkinson wastes no time in pointing to the spot.
1' We're underway at Villa Park.
This is the third Premier League meeting between Aston Villa and Bournemouth – the away side has won the previous two, with the Villans winning 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium and the Cherries winning 2-1 at Villa Park in the 2015-16 season.
Despite scoring Bournemouth's goal last week, Mepham makes way from the team this afternoon along with Diego Rico. Daniels and Wilson get the nod to replace them at the back and in the midfield respectively.
Aston Villa have made one change to their side from their defeat at the hands of Spurs last time out. Hourihane drops out of the line-up and is replaced by Douglas Luiz in the middle of the park.
BOURNEMOUTH SUBS: Artur Boruc, Andrew Surman, Dominic Solanke, Jordon Ibe, Jack Stacey, Diego Rico, Chris Mepham.
BOURNEMOUTH (4-4-1-1): Aaron Ramsdale; Adam Smith, Steve Cook, Nathan Ake, Charlie Daniels; Harry Wilson, Jefferson Lerma, Philip Billing, Ryan Fraser; Josh King; Callum Wilson.

ASTON VILLA (4-3-3): Tom Heaton; Ahmed El Mohamady, Bjorn Engels, Tyrone Mings, Neil Taylor; John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Jack Grealish; Anwar El Ghazi, Wesley, Trezeguet.
Bournemouth face a newly-promoted side for the second week in a row. Last time out they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield United at Vitality Stadium. Chris Mepham had put the Cherries in front, but Billy Sharp denied them a perfect start to the new term when he scored two minutes from time. Eddie Howe's men will be tested again this afternoon against a team that will be desperate to emulate their recent success in the top flight.
Premier League football returns to Villa Park for the first time in three years. Dean Smith's men were faced with a tough task against Tottenham in their opener on the road. John McGinn did put them ahead, but Tanguy Ndombele and a brace from Harry Kane condemned the Villans to defeat. They will be looking to bounce back to kick off their campaign on home soil with a win over the Cherries.
Good afternoon and welcome to live commentary of the Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Bournemouth at Villa Park.
