That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Next up for Bournemouth is a trip to the Champions Manchester City, while Villa will welcome Everton to Villa Park in an attempt to pick up their first points of the season.
Bournemouth mark their return to the Premier League with a convincing 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the opening day, thanks to goals from Lerma and Moore. The Cherries led 1-0 at the break and Villa came out fighting in the second period, with a half-time change and they dominated possession, but failed to test Travers in the Bournemouth goal, who didn’t have a save to make in the second half and his side looked pretty comfortable. Villa then came undone at a set piece late on and Moore headed home a second on 80 minutes to wrap up the win and all three points.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: BOURNEMOUTH 2-0 ASTON VILLA
J. Stanislas
D. Solanke
90' + 5' Bournemouth make a change in stoppage time, with Solanke heading off and on comes Stanislas.
Douglas Luiz
Yellow Card
90' + 3' Douglas Luiz is booked late on for a challenge and then he protests the decision out of frustration.
90' + 2' Villa continue to probe forward, but without much intensity or threat and it doesn't look like they'll be able to pull one back late on.
90' There will be a minimum of six minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
88' In four of their five seasons at top-flight level, at least one of the sides competing in Bournemouth’s opening league match of the season has gone on to be relegated: their opponents Aston Villa in 2015-16, West Brom in 2017-18, Cardiff City in 2018-19 and Bournemouth themselves in 2019-20.
R. Christie
M. Tavernier
86' Tavernier has played well on his Bournemouth debut, he's replaced by Christie.
84' There's not much time left on the clock for Villa to get anything out of this game now and they haven't really looked like scoring in the seocnd half.
Douglas Luiz
B. Kamara
82' Kamara also heads off the pitch, with Douglas Luiz heading on to replace him.
C. Archer
Philippe Coutinho
81' Double Villa substitution coming up now, with Coutinho the first to head off and Archer is his replacement.
81' Moore has been excellent up front on his own in this second half, as Solanke has been forced out to the left wing to defend due to Villa seeing more of the ball. However, the striker has caused a lot of prpblems up there.
L. Kelly
Assist
80' Villa don't defend a free-kick well enough and Kelly is allowed time to pick up the rebound and then deliver a cross into the box, which is superbly met by Moore, who heads it home.
K. Moore
Goal
80' GOAL! Bournemouth double their lead! Kelly lofts a good cross into the box from the right wing after Villa fail to clear the danger from a free-kick and the ball flies straight to Moore unmarked in the penalty area. The striker powers his header past Martinez and into the far right corner of the net to make it 2-0.
79' Free-kick to Bournemouth in a decent position after Kemara clatters into the back of Tavernier around 35 yards out. This hands the hosts a set piece and opportunity to create something in the penalty area.
77' Another goal for Bournemouth now would surely wrap up the win and three points for Bournemouth today. Villa keep pushing forward, but they are leaving gaps at the back for the hosts to exploit.
75' Tavernier has a problem now for the Cherries and he's receiving some treatment on the pitch and it doesn't look like he is going to be able to continue.
P. Billing
Yellow Card
73' Billing is the latest player to be shown a yellow card for his blatant challenge on Cash to prevent the counter.
L. Cook
B. Pearson
72' Bournemouth make their first change now and it's a straight swap in midfield, with Pearson the man coming off and he has been replaced by Cook.
70' We're into the final 20 minutes of the game now and it remains Villa who dominate possession, but they are yet to force Travers into making a save in this second half.
68' Villa have won just once on the five previous occasions they’ve kicked off a Premier League campaign against a promoted side (D1 L3), though that victory did come at Bournemouth in 2015-16.
O. Watkins
D. Ings
66' Here is the Villa change and it's Ings who comes off and he has been replaced by Watkins.
65' CLOSE! Villa take a free-kick quickly, with Buendia sending it off to Kamara, who fires a powerful strike towards the top right corner of the net. However, it just bends away from goal at the last moment and flies wide.
64' Tavernier has looked lively today on his Bournemouth and Premier League debut, the winger has been involved in a lot of good play in attack for the home side down the right flank.
62' It looks like Villa are getting ready to make another change to try and get back into this game, as Watkins is receiving some final instructions on the sidelines.
60' Awful effort! Carlos has a go from long range after the ball falls nicely to him and he fires a volley towards goal, but it's well off target and doesn't trouble Travers.
58' Stoppage in play now and it looks like Moore has a problem for Bournemouth with a head injury, so he is receiving some medical treatment on the pitch.
56' McGinn whips a lovely ball across the pitch to Digne down the left wing, who tries to head it back across goal to a team-mate, but Bournemouth do well to clear the danger.
54' This is good possession from Villa, but Bournemouth are pressing them high up the pitch and the visitors are yet to create a chance in the final third, with the hosts looking pretty comfortable.
52' The game is a bit more open now, with Villa going more attacking, but this should leave space for Bournemouth to exploit on the counter-attack if they can work the ball quickly up the pitch.
50' Villa finished the 2021-22 Premier League campaign with just two wins from their final 11 games (D3 L6), with those victories coming against Norwich City and Burnley, who were both relegated.
48' The Villa change ahead of the second half has seen them change their formation slightly, with Coutinho playing closer to Ings and further forward in an attempt to get him involved.
46' The second half is under way!
E. Buendía
J. Ramsey
46' Villa have made a substitution at the break, with Ramsey the man coming off and he has been replaced by Buendia.
The hosts looks pretty comfortable at the back, with Kelly and Mepham playing well against Ings and Bailey, who have been very lively in attack for Villa. However, the visitors have had glimses of goal and will keen to register an equaliser shortly after the break.
Bournemouth couldn't have wished for a better start to kick off their Premier League campaign, as Lerma fired them 1-0 ahead after just three minutes, as Villa failed to clear the danger from a corner. Solanke almost made it two a few minutes later, but Martinez made a fine save to deny him. Villa have grown into the game, but have been limited to opportunities from the edge of the box, but Travers has still been called into action, to make saves to deny Ramsey and Ings.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: BOURNEMOUTH 1-0 ASTON VILLA
J. Ramsey
Yellow Card
45' + 3' Ramsey deliberately drags Pearson back as the midfielder looked to break forward quickly and he is shown a yellow card.
B. Pearson
Yellow Card
45' + 2' Pearson is booked just before half-time for a late crunching tackle on Kamara. Not too dangerous, but he didn't get any of the ball.
45' There will be a minimum of three minutes added time played at the end of the first half.
43' There's not much action happening in the final third at the moment, with Bournemouth quite happy to see the game out to half-time with their 1-0 lead.
41' There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, can Villa find an equaliser before the half-time whistle?
A. Smith
Yellow Card
39' Smith is booked after he catches Digne high and late as the pair battled for the loose ball.
36' Coutinho has hardly been involved for Villa so far, Bournemouth have done very well to keep him out of the game and prevent him from influencing proceedings in the final third.
34' The hosts will be very pleased by this opening half of football so far, as they've got a few difficult games coming up after this fixture, so three points on the board straight away would be a huge result.
32' Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last 10 home league games (W6 D4) since a 1-0 loss to Hull in January. However, in the Premier League the Cherries have won just three of their last 13 at the Vitality Stadium (D3 L7).
30' We’re at the half an hour mark now and it remains Bournemouth who lead thanks to Lerma's strike after just three minutes. However, both teams have had chances and we probably should have a few more goals on the board.
28' Bournemouth are camped inside their own half at the moment, soaking up the Villa pressure and allowing them possession in the middle of the pitch, but pressing high whenever they get near the final third.
26' Bournemouth have lost possession a couple of times in their own half recently and Villa have almost capitalised, especially Ings and Bailey, who have been excellent so far.
24' Stoppage in play here as Smith is receiving some treatment from the Bournemouth medical team after a collision with Ings and it appears to be a knee injury. However, it looks like he will be fine to continue.
D. Ings
Yellow Card
23' The first yellow card of the game is shown to Ings for a late challenge around the halfway line.
23' CHANCE! Bournemouth get forward on the counter-attack and almost double their lead, as Smith is fed through on goal deep down the right inside the penalty area. However, he drags his effort just wide of the post.
21' SAVE! Ramsey tries to curl the ball into the bottom left corner of the net from the edge of the box, but Travers gets down well and makes a great save to push it out wide to safety. Bailey picks up the rebound, but he’s flagged offside and Bournemouth can count themselves lucky.
19' Bournemouth’s first ever Premier League game in August 2015 was a 1-0 home defeat to Villa – they’ve won all three of their league meetings against Villa since then, each by a 2-1 scoreline.
17' CHANCE! Ings rises above Mepham in the box and powers a header towards goal, but he just gets slightly too much on the effort and it flies over the Bournemouth crossbar.
15' Decent chance! The ball falls nicely to McGinn on the edge of the box and he tries to volley an effort towards the top left corner of the net. However, the shot is off target and doesn't trouble Travers.
13' This is a bit better from Villa, they are keeping the ball well, but it’s all in the middle of the pitch and they aren’t getting too far into the Bournemouth half. However, Ings looks dangerous whenever he is involved.
11' The opening period of this game has been played at a frantic pace, with both teams going for it in these early stages, but Bournemouth look more dangerous in attack at the moment.
9' CHANCE! Bournemouth almost make it 2-0! Solanke lets a low cross find Zemura on the edge of the box, who tries to work space for a shot, but instead flicks it to Solanke, who fires a shot towards the Villa goal. However, Martinez gets down quickly and makes a smart save to deny him.
7' SAVE! Cash plays a lovely ball over the top of the Bournemouth defence and Bailey flicks it on to Ings, who takes a touch and then fires a low effort towards the Bournemouth goal from the edge of the box. However, it's too close to Travers, who makes a good stop.
5' Villa try to create something from their first corner now, with Carlos getting his head to the ball at the near post, but Kelly gets up and clears the danger for the hosts.
J. Lerma
Goal
2' GOAL! Bournemouth take the lead! Tavernier whips in a corner from the right, which Kelly meets and heads it down in the box and Villa fail to clear. The ball falls perfectly to Lerma, who smashes a shot towards goal and it takes a slight deflection, before flying into the back of the net. They lead 1-0!
2' Solanke does well to win an early corner for the hosts down the right, can Bournemouth create an opportunity early on?
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
Meanwhile Gerrard starts two of his new signings, with Carlos and Kamara in the XI, alongside Coutinho who made his loan signing a permanent deal in the summer from Barcelona. Ings is preferred up front for the visitors, with Watkins on the bench.
Scott Parker names his first Bournemouth team of the season and hands Tavernier is debut for the club, meanwhile Solanke and Moore are tasked with leading the line for the Cherries.
