Top Five: African transfer rumours to watch before deadline day

00:24 EAT 07/08/2019
Kenneth Omeruo - Nigeria vs. Guinea
Which of these issues will be resolved during the final days of the transfer window?

  • Kenneth Omeruo Nigeria

Will Omeruo move on from Chelsea?

In this era of new hope at Chelsea, and of faith being placed in youngsters, it’s ironic that one of the club’s most long-term prospects appears primed to be moved on.

Omeruo has been at Stamford Bridge since 2012, but is yet to make a senior league appearance for the Blues, instead going out on loan six times, to destinations such as the Netherlands, Spain and Turkey.

He now appears primed to depart for good, with Amiens and Leganes both increasingly linked to a permanent transfer.

However, with the hours ticking on, will Omeruo get the Chelsea exit that, by now, he surely needs for his career to kick on?

  • Victor Wanyama of Tottenham Hotspur

Has Wanyama’s time at Spurs come to an end?

Victor Wanyama has had a frustrating time at Tottenham Hotspur since joining the club from Southampton in 2016.

In his first season in North London, he replicated his Saints form, but since then, injuries, a loss of form, and increased competition have reduced his impact.

With Tanguy Ndombele arriving at the new White Hart Lane, don’t expect Big Vic to get more than his 513 minutes of playing time last term, and he may need a change of scene in order to return to top form.

Bournemouth have been heavily linked with a move for the powerhouse, but will they manage to get a deal over the line in time?

  • Abdoulaye Doucoure Watford

    How can Everton replace Gueye?

Everton have sold Idrissa Gueye to Paris Saint-Germain, but despite the arrival of Jean-Philippe Gbamin from Mainz, they still need to fill the midfield hole left by the departing Senegal international.

Only Wilfred Ndidi and N’Golo Kante could match Gana for consistent defensive contributions over recent Premier League seasons, and it’s imperative the Toffees bolster their midfield before the window slams shut.

They’ve reportedly had a bid for Watford’s Franco-Malian powerhouse Abdoulaye Doucoure rejected, with Ibrahim Sangare of Toulouse potentially emerging as a cheaper option.

  • Mario Lemina, Sofiane Boufal - Southampton

Will Lemina get his move away from Southampton?

Another player linked with Everton, as a potential replacement for Gueye, is Southampton’s Lemina, who has made it clear that he wants a move this summer.

The Gabon international has been ostracised by Saints’ hierarchy after revealing his desire to depart the club, although at the time of writing, no one has been bold enough to stump up the cash for the 25-year-old.

Lemina clearly has pedigree, having passed through Olympique de Marseille and Juventus, but despite being linked with a move to Manchester United

  • Andre Ayew Fenerbahce 1282019

    Where next for Andre Ayew?

Ghana superstar Ayew remains at Swansea City, even though his brother Jordan has already departed the club for Crystal Palace on a permanent deal.

Don’t expect Dede to remain in South Wales beyond the end of the transfer window, though with the club reportedly desperate to offload his hefty wages heading into the new campaign.

One option is Derby County, and a reunion with Phillip Cocu, his former manager at Fenerbahce, while there’s also been reported interest from China.

It remains to be seen whether Ayew will accept a stay in the second tier, or a move to the Far East, and there’s still time for a Premier League side to swoop for the Black Star.
