Chiefs released four strikers at the end of last season with Leonardo Castro, Samir Nurkovic, Lazalous Kambole and Bernard Parker the ones let go, but have struggled to find the right replacements and Tau could tick most boxes.Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has decried a lack of cutting edge in attack this season as his side has scored five goals in the opening four games of the season, three of them coming in the 3-0 win over Maritzburg United, and Tau could help solve the problems given his four-year experience in the PSL.Amakhosi have just signed Burundian striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana but the burly forward does not possess the cleverness, athleticism and finishing of Tau who could be vital for their title challenge this season.

Pirates brought in Bienvenue Eva Nga and Evidence Makgopa ahead of the current season to solve their problems upfront but none of them has impressed so far in the opening five games.While they have looked solid defensively, conceding just once, they have been toothless in attack, managing three goals with only one of those coming from forwards.Eva Nga who has one goal has been a subject of boos from fans due to his wistfulness in front of goal while Makgopa is yet to make his Pirates debut due to an injury, meaning news of Tau signing would be welcome by the supporters.Since Frank Mhango scored 16 league goals during the 2019-20 season, Pirates forwards have found it hard to reach double figures in the last two terms but in Tau, they will have a player who has achieved that given his best season 2017-18, yielded 14.

A return to Belgium has also been mooted with several reports linking Tau to Anderlecht where he spent one season on loan, 2020-21, scoring four goals in 14 matches before joining Al Ahly.Tau, alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Fabio Silva, were among players being monitored by the Belgian side last month over a possible transfer and now that he is available on the market as a free agent, Anderlecht could pounce.According to Egyptian outlet Sada El-Balad, the Belgian club had tabled $2 million for Tau but Al Ahly’s evaluation was double that amount.

Prior to joining Al Ahly, Belgian club Royal Antwerp were reported to be keen to sign Tau, who had enjoyed successful loan stints at Union SG, Club Brugge and Anderlecht.The forward made his mark in Belgium, winning the Proximus League Player of the Season award while playing for Union before helping Club Brugge win the Pro League title and this added to his exploits in Egypt, could see Antwerp reignite their interest again before the transfer window shuts.Antwerp were reportedly willing to pay Brighton €4 million for the forward but they could now get their man for free.

Royal Antwerp

A return to the club that made him the star he is today cannot be ruled out. The Lion of Judah made 100 appearances for the PSL champions, scoring 25 goals including 14 in his final season to earn the move to Brighton and the Pretoria giants could offer him a route back if they so wish.Sundowns have been keen not to employ a scattergun approach to their transfers but Tau is a player they know too well, having won five trophies at the club including two league titles and the Caf Champions League.Tau left Sundowns having been named the PSL Player of the Year and the Brazilians could be the perfect club to revive his career.
