Justice Chabalala and Tiyani Mabunda - Orlando Pirates v Mamelodi Sundowns
Chiefs are officially out of the PSL title race after their draw away to Black Leopards. Goal takes a look at the six teams that are still in the race

  • Mthokozisi Dube & Luvuyo Memela, Orlando Pirates, April 2019

    #1 Orlando Pirates

The Buccaneers top the PSL standings with 50 points from 27 games, and they are six points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who have three games in hand. As things stand, Micho Sredojevic's men appear to be in total control of the title race, and Sundowns know that they cannot afford to slip up in their next three games.
  • Mamelodi Sundowns v Al Ahly, April 2019

    #2 Mamelodi Sundowns

While the pressure may be mounting on the Brazilians in their quest to defend the league title, they have been in this position before. Their Caf Champions League commitments have seen them fall six points behind current leaders Orlando Pirates. However, they are still very much in the title race with six games to go.

  • Thulani Hlatshwayo, Bidvest Wits, 2019

    #3 Bidvest Wits

The Students are six points behind Pirates but they have played one game less. While Sundowns have the biggest advantage, Wits cannot be written off completely simply because they still have a pending case against the defending champions. Gavin Hunt's men will, however, need other results to go their way in order to win only their second PSL title.
  • Polokwane City, Jabulani Maluleke

    #4 Polokwane City

Risae and Shine may be nine points off the pace, but with 15 points still to play for before the end of the current campaign, they are still very much in the title race. Very few people expected Jozef Vukusic to put them where they are on the PSL log. And they are certainly one of the teams with nothing to lose going into the final five games of the season.
  • Cape Town City, January 2019

    #5 Cape Town City

Benni McCarthy may have already ruled his side out of the title race, but Cape Town City still have the mathematical chance of pulling the unthinkable. While they are 10 points off the pace, City have 15 points to play for, and should any of the teams in front of them drop points and they continue winning, then the PSL could have champions from the Mother City.
  • Aubrey Modiba & Evans Rusike, SuperSport United, December 2018

    #6 SuperSport United

Just like Cape Town City, SuperSport United find themselves on 40 points after 25 games. They also have a chance even though it will be tough given their inconsistencies in terms of winning games. Matsatsantsa had a slow start to the current campaign, but they recovered nicely in the second round.
