<p>Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool by converting a penalty before providing the assist for Curtis Jones' winning goal in the 51st minute as the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/arne-slot-liverpool-premier-league-title-contenders-winners-losers-chelsea-test-mohamed-salah-new-contract/blt45a7d605c8a5c8cf" target="_blank">Reds edged out Chelsea 2-1</a> to retain their place at the top of the league table. <p>The Merseyside club have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign under new manager Arne Slot, winning seven and losing one of their eight Premier League games thus far, leaving them one point clear of reigning champions Manchester City at the summit. For the first time in the 2024-25 campaign, the club faced a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/who-are-premier-league-big-six-top-english-clubs-nickname-explained/130iokmi8t8dt1k3kudou73s1k" target="_blank">'big six' club</a> and they passed the test with flying colours.</p>

Jadon Sancho, on the other hand, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/chelsea-enzo-maresca-anfield-atmosphere-key-refereeing-decisions-go-against-blues-liverpool-defeat/blt13397608269c8806" target="_blank">was denied a spot-kick</a> after being tackled by Trent-Alexander Arnold inside the box. </p>
