Zoo's hopes of escaping the chop have received a major blow following the suspension of key striker Nicholas Kipkurui

Nicholas Kipkurui’s hopes of lifting the Kenyan Premier League Golden Boot has received a major blow after the Zoo FC striker was slapped with a three-match ban.

Kipkurui is currently joint-second with Gor Mahia’s striker Jacques Tuyisenge on the top scorers’ chart.

Both players have each scored 11 goals for their respective clubs and four behind former Nzoia Sugar counterpart Elvis Rupia, who has since moved to the Zambian Premier League.

But the Zoo attacker will have to sit out of action for the next three matches on disciplinary grounds.

Kipkurui, who has picked two red and five yellow cards, will start his three-match band with the weekend’s game against Kariobangi Sharks.

The Zoo FC striker will also miss a home match against Nzoia Sugar and an away trip to Nairobi when the tea pickers play Tusker.

Tusker will also miss Eric Ambunya when the Brewers take on Kakamega Homeboyz in the KPL round of 25 matches.

Ambunya has accumulated five yellow cards.

The news is a big blow to Zoo who are just three points away from the relegation zone.

Zoo are 14th on the log with 26 points, just three more than Vihiga United who are 16th with 23 points while Tusker are eight with 33 points.
