Yakou Meite extends Reading stay until 2022

The 22-year-old attacker committed his future to the Royals for the next four years

Yakou Meite has signed a new four-year contract with Reading that will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2022.

The Cote d’Ivoire youth international joined the Championship side from PSG for an undisclosed fee in 2016 and has scored two goals in 27 appearances for the Royals.

Last season, Meite was sent out on loan to French Ligue 2 side Sochaux in a quest for regular playing time, where he managed three goals in 31 league games.

So far this season, the left-footed attacker has made 12 appearances including 10 starts across all competition for the Royals who are placed 20th in the second tier of the English league.

And manager Paul Clement is delighted with the contract renewal of the Ivorian forward who brings versatility to his squad.

“Yakou is a strong, powerful, versatile, attack-minded player who has demonstrated he is capable of playing in a number of different positions on the pitch,” Clement told club website.

“At 22 years of age, he is a player who I believe will continue to improve and I am very pleased he has committed to a new contract at the club.”
