Victor Wanyama will be up against Stoke City on Sunday

Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama has been touted to be instrumental for Tottenham Hotspur when they host Stoke City on Sunday.

The Harambee Stars captain scored in Spurs 2-2 futile draw against Belgian KAA Genk in Europa League match played on Thursday and pundits believe that he will still fight for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in a league encounter, which comes only three days later.

In a preview session held on the club’s television prior to the Stoke City match, The Mirror's journalist Darren Lewis termed him (Wanyama) an asset at the club asserting that his presence will thwart efforts from Spurs' opponents.

"Pochettino has ensured that teams don’t come here and roll you out because you got that defensive stability. You got Wanyama in that defensive shield alongside the likes of Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier. That’s a really good stuff for you guys ahead of this match."

Wanyama had also psyched up his colleagues to stay strong in the league following the Europa league heartbreak.

“We have to pick ourselves up again and the players know that. It was a fantastic second half performance. Hopefully we’ll continue how we played in the second half and we’ll be okay.” He told the club’s official website.

He has so far scored three goals for the Spurs in as many matches. If they collect three points against Stoke City, they will go past Manchester City whose match against Manchester United was postponed to pave way for the EFL Cup final battle.
