The victory saw Vihiga United leap three places up on the log to joint 12th on points alongside Posta Rangers and avoid the axe

Vihiga United handed Gor Mahia their third consecutive defeat in the Kenyan Premier League following a 2-0 win on Wednesday.

Gor Mahia had lost to relegated side Thika United and Ulinzi Stars and many expected that K’Ogalo would rise after players called off a two-week boycott over unpaid dues.

Caleb Wafula and Amos Kigadi will be credited for the mid-week victory that pushed Vihiga United way off the danger zone with only three rounds of matches still remaining until the end of the season.

There were early signs of bad things to come for Gor Mahia, right from the start. Geoffrey Oputi first denied Bernard Ondiek's from close range after he dealt with the defender’s shot in the 15th minute. Then came Kigadi with two quick attacks within a span of three minutes. Gor Mahia were living dangerously.

Kigadi was a constant threat in Gor Mahia defence and it was just a matter of time before he punished the visitors. The forward wasted two chances but made amends at the half-hour mark when he broke the deadlock as the host took the lead to the dismay of Gor Mahia fans.

Vihiga held on to the slim lead until the break. Caleb Wafula doubled the hosts' advantage after he beat both Shakava and Joash Onyango to slot home past Shaban Odhoji after a nice delivery from Christopher Masinza.

The victory saw Vihiga United leap three places up on the log to joint 12th on points with Posta Rangers while Gor Mahia’s recent form has continued to raise eyebrows even as they wait for Saturday to receive their 17th KPL title.
