The first semi-final of the under-18 Youth League saw Kerala Blasters defeat SAI Kolkata at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong. Kerala’s Abdullah KS scored twice to ensure his side a place in the finale, where they will face Lajong.
Kerala were in better control of the game as they created several goal-scoring opportunities. In the 39th minute, Abdullah KS opened the account for the southern outfit as he received a well-timed pass from Yashin Malik.
Just two minutes later, SAI Kolkata pulled one back, thanks to Injaman Molla who scored from inside the box. However, Abdullah pounced on a loose delivery in the 50th minute to register his brace, thereby also confirming Kerala’s berth in the final.
The second semi-final was a cagey encounter which saw goals pouring in the last 15 minutes. Hosts Lajong registered their first strike as late as the 75th minute when Phrangki Lyngdoh converted from a set-piece, at the edge of the 18-yard-box.
In the 86th minute, East Bengal were guilty of conceding a penalty which was successfully slotted in by Phrangki again. His brace was enough to take Lajong to the final, which will be against Kerala Blasters on 26th May.
