The country’s leading football website has been handed a hard-hitting group in the annual football tourney for sports writers

Goal Nigeria will face TVC, HotsportTV, Sportvision and Top Radio in Group D of the preliminary round of the 2018 Swan Cup.

The draw ceremony took place Friday evening at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Lagos. The event was greeted with a novelty match between Lagos Chesters and Lagos Women coaches.

Chairman of the LOC Wale Joseph was in charge of the draw and was assisted Jerome Obuninta – a committee member of the 2018 Swan Cup.

Unilag FM were zoned in Group A against Galaxy TV, Pooja Media, Voice of Nigeria and Sportsville.

The Nations had ‘dark horses’ SMA TV for company in Group B, as well as Rave TV and Community watch.

Defending champions, Complete Sports were handed a tricky pool, having been bracketed with Inspiration FM, Radio Nigeria, Sports Compass and the Sun Newspaper.

Veteran broadcaster Godwin Enakhena shares his thoughts on what Nigerians should expect from SWAN Cup 2018.

“The draw has been done and the teams are ready. It’s time to walk the talk and enough of boasting,” Enakhena told Goal.

“As I sat through the draw, I kept reminiscing on what the SWAN Cup used to be when some of us were still active and playing in the competition. The last time I participated before a forced retirement due to old age was 2002 or thereabout.

“The good thing about the SWAN Cup is that it gets better and bigger every year. What makes me happy the most is that our veterans are getting involved and that sponsors are supporting the event.”

He added: “Another thing worthy of commendation is that past chairmen are also involved supporting their successors as we are witnessing now between Fred Edoreh and Debo Oshundun.

“This is what we should be doing for the love of our beloved SWAN. We work so hard daily in the office and need to recreate from time to time. All work and no play will make the Sports Journalist a dull media practitioner.

“Nigerians who missed the SWAN Cup curtain raiser between our ladies and women coaches that ended goalless, shouldn’t worry as they have another opportunity of watching how Sports Writers will sweat it out all through the week.

“However, the big one is on Friday, 5th Of October 2018 at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Lagos by noon when my pet project, Family United By Sports (FUBS) made up of The Who is Who in Nigeria Sports will do battle with the SWAN team.

“FUBS is on a mission to change how sports should be run professionally and as a business in Nigeria. We are not out to take over the job of the Ministry of sports or the Nigeria Football Federation but complement them. So, let’s have fun daily at the Legacy pitch.”
