Stoke City vs Liverpool Preview: Reds promise goal fest at Stoke

This season, Liverpool matches seem to guarantee goals. So far, 105 have been scored in matches involving the Anfield club.

And Saturday’s match against Stoke City promises another goal-fest.

In Jurgen Klopp’s first two matches in charge of the club against Stoke City, Liverpool have won with 4-1 scorelines. Another win by that margin will make the German only the second manager since Manuel Pellegrini to take charge of a team that scored four or more goals against a single opponent in the first three meetings (Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur).

Liverpool are overwhelming favourites going into the tie given that they have won the last six of their seven meetings with the Potters – their only defeat coming in May 2015. And Liverpool have already scored more goals this season (66) than they did last year (63).

At the same time, the current form too provides a bright prospect for Liverpool, who are undefeated in the past five games, winning three and drawing twice. Stoke, meanwhile, have lost three consecutive Premier league games.

It gives Liverpool a great opportunity to earn another three points as the race for the Champions League heats up.

Currently in third position, Liverpool have 60 points in their 31 games, two more than Manchester City who have a game in hand.

As for the injury list, Liverpool were dealt a blow with Sadio Mane’s injury against Everton. Reports suggest that the Senegalese striker may miss out on the rest of the season. However, in Divock Origi, Klopp has an able replacement as Daniel Sturridge too is nearing a return after a long spell on the sidelines.

A lot will also depend on the in-form Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, who were instrumental in Liverpool’s entertaining 2-2 draw at Bournemouth in their last Premier League tie.
