Abia Warriors joint leading scorer, Obi Samson has blamed their lack of cutting edge, especially in the first half for their goalless draw at home to Kano Pillars on Sunday in Umuahia.

Samson revealed that even though it was a cagey affair in the second half because of the way Sai Masu Gida played but that they had numerous chances in the first half they ought to have taken to put the game to bed.

He said they had hoped to secure their third consecutive win to put pressure on Lobi Stars, Akwa United, Kano Pillars, Katsina United, and Plateau United who are the current frontrunners but that they left the pitch disappointed that they have failed to win in front of their fans for the fifth time this season.

“I will say we paid for our inability to bury the chances we had in the first half of the match when Kano Pillars were yet to settle down into the game,” Samson told Goal.

“It was a tough game nonetheless but we had opportunities that we were unable to convert in the early part of the game. I am equally guilty too because I was unable to add to my eight goals against Pillars.

“We wanted to use the Pillars game to improve our league position and probably move into the top five but we were unable to do. I must admit that Pillars were able to cope with what we threw at them in the second half but we lost the two points earlier on in the game.”

The former Delta Force attacker encouraged his teammates to take the positives out of the home draw and strive to go to Jos to do what may sound impossible when they face Plateau United at their fortress at the Zaria Road Stadium this weekend.

“We must believe first in ourselves that we can do it when we visit Plateau United in Jos on Sunday,” Samson added.

“We were able to beat them when they visited us in January and I believe we can get a double win over them if we go with the right frame of mind to Jos. They are a tough side to face in Jos but with the determination to excel we can achieve a good result there.”
