Okon blames defensive blunders for Rivers Angels' defeat

Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon has blamed defensive blunders for his side's Nigeria Women Premier League Super Four tournament 2-0 loss to Delta Queens on Monday.

The Port Harcourt based side bowed to Delta following strikes from Amerat Adebisi and Rosemary Okezie in their opening match.

Despite the defeat, the former Super Falcons coach is confident they will bounce back in a replay of last final against Nasarawa Amazons on Tuesday.

"It was a bad day for us and we should have taken some of our chances in the match," Okon told Goal.

"The goals we conceded were from our defensive blunders we committed during the game. We could have done better to avoid conceding those goals if we really defended well.

"We have to move on, it is just our first game and we will work on those areas we need to correct our mistakes in our next game.

"We will surely come out stronger against Nasarawa Amazons. We still have a lot to fight for in the tournament. We can still defend our title."
