Pitso Mosimane: Anthony Laffor can leave Sundowns if he wants

Mosimane says the Liberia international still has goals in him, but adds that he won't stand in his way if he wants to leave the club

Speculation continues to surround Mamelodi Sundowns winger Anthony Laffor, but coach Pitso Mosimane isn't too worried about the Liberian’s future.

Laffor hasn't been a regular for the Brazilians in the last two seasons, failing to cement his place in Mosimane's starting line-up.

With his lack of game time in the star-studded Brazilians squad, talks have surfaced that Kaizer Chiefs are assessing his situation with new Premier Soccer League champions.

Although the former SuperSport United and Jomo Cosmos winger made a huge contribution in the Caf Champions League for the 2016 African champions in recent times, Mosimane said if the lanky attacker wants to leave, he can leave.

Mosimane drew comparisons on the likes of Teko Modise, Katlego Mphela and Elias Pelembe who all left the club in recent years, saying life will go on in his camp.

However, the former African Coach of the Year said they cannot chase the 33-year-old winger away from the club because he still has goals in him.

“I don’t know [if he will be leaving]. Laffor is with us. Laffor has got the magic. Laffor has got goals. We don’t chase him away. If he wants to leave, he can leave. If he wants to stay, he can stay,” Mosimane was quoted as saying by The Citizen.

“He has done well for us in the Champions League, but everyone has his time,” added Mosimane.

“You can say the same about Surprise Moriri, Elias Pelembe, Katlego Mphela, Teko Modise. They have moved on, the team must always be strong,” continued the coach.

“In the last five years, we have lasted all those, even Lebo Mokoena... we have moved on. What is important is to keep the team winning,” he concluded.

In this current season, Laffor has made a single start in the league and came off the bench nine times, but scored five goals in their continental campaigns in the past few seasons.

They face defending champions Wydad Casablanca on Saturday night in the group stages at Lucas Moripe Stadium and will wrap up their PSL season with a clash away to Bloemfontein on May 12.
