Despite trailing twice in their round 21 Malaysia Super League match against Selangor on Saturday, Melaka United kept their cool to come from behind and record a 3-2 win at the Hang Jebat Stadium.

Ilham Udin Armaiyn opened the scoring for the visitors in the 25th minute, but Yahor Zubovich levelled the score five minutes into the second half. Substitute Kugan Dhevarajan helped Selangor retake the lead with his first touch in the 70th minute, but their poor defending allowed Zubovich to head home another equaliser from a set piece, in the 83rd minute. Nicholas Swirad emerged as Melaka's hero of the match, when he nodded in the winner in the dying moments of the match from another set piece.

Speaking in the post-match interview with the match broadcaster, Swirad said he was happy to get the winner and bag his first goal of the season in their last league match at home.

"It's great; we were down twice, and it was a last-minute winner. And it was the last game of the season, I'm simply delighted," remarked the defender.

The 27-year old also praised his club's progress under head coach Elavarasan Elangowan, since he was appointed back in May.

"He's changed our tactics so we're now a more counter-attacking team, and it's working. We're not the most entertaining side, but we're organised defensively and on the break. We can't complain when the results have been coming!" said the former JDT II player.

Having already secured their top-tier status for next season a few weeks ago, the Mousedeers will play away to the relegation-threatened Negeri Sembilan in their final league match next Saturday. They are currently in seventh place, but still have a mathematical chance of finishing the season in as high as fifth.
