Mbokani ends goal drought, named Ukrainian best player

The-31-year-old attacker saw his bid to secure a third consecutive loan spell prove unsuccessful

Congolese attacker Dieumerci Mbokani was named the Ukrainian Premier League’s best player of the matchday two after his strike decided the Klasychne derby on Saturday.

The Dynamo Kyiv striker scored the only goal as Kyiv edged Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 at the Oblasny SportKomplex Metalist on Saturday.

Prior to his return to Kyiv, Mbokani had gone through a trying period as he failed his medical and saw his proposed move to Olympiakos fall though.

But the Congolese attacker returned to Kyiv to honour the remainder of the contract he signed in June 2013 after spending two seasons in the Premier League on loan to Norwich City and Hull City

Having already lost to Shakhtar recently in the Super Cup, Mbokani made sure the same does not happen again as he connected well with Denys Harmash’s cross to nod home the only goal of the match in the 46th minute on his second league appearance.
