Ingwe remembers the late former chairman, who led the club to their last league title in 1998 season

Mathews Opwora has described the late AFC Leopards chairman Francis Chahonyo as the man who build the club.

The former Ingwe and Postmaster General Chahonyo passed away while undergoing treatment at Karen Hospital in Nairobi on Monday, according his uncle and family spokesman Dan Chitwa.

He was admitted at the hospital two months ago. Chahonyo hailed from Chavakali, Vihiga County. “I wish to send my deep condolences to not only the family of Francis Chahonyo, but also AFC Leopards Sports Club fraternity.

“Chahonyo is fondly remembered for not only spending generously to uplift AFC Leopards but was the last chairman to win the last league trophy in 1998, which to date remains elusive.

"Francis Chahonyo brought unity and stability in the team at time when there was no sponsorship.

“It is unfortunate he has passed on leaving AFC Leopards without winning league trophy last won under his stewardship. May his soul rest in peace,” said Opwora in a statement obtained by Goal.

Chahonyo also served as the Managing Director at Kenya Sugar Board as well as serving as AFC Leopards chairman in 1998.
